Posted - Dec 05 2010 : 5:43:58 PM Hello everyone,
We live at the end of a half mile dirt road with no neighbors in sight. I love the privacy.
At home we have 5 of our children and 2 foster women. The women are special needs and have lived with me for 26+ years. The children at home are 26, 16, 14, 13, and 3. the 3 yo is a grandchild we adopted. Well, the older children are adopted as well.
Not living at home are 4 boys 31, 31, 27 and 18.
We raise all of our own meat. We have 4 beef cow mamas and their babies from this year. In the winter we keep a bull, in the spring we send it back to the people who own him and they use him for those 6 months. In the summer we keep pigs. This year we had 8. they were great fun and had fun personalities. We also raise meat chickens. this year we raised ducks. I think we will not do ducks again, there was hardly any meat on them for the time it took to raise them. We also have a milk cow. She is due to in the next few weeks so she is dry right now. there are egg hens as well. and a rooster whose days may be numbered, although he is not mean to the children. We have 2 dogs and 9 cats.
We homeschool as well.
I guess that is all. Any questions? lol

Posted - Dec 12 2010 : 5:48:50 PM Hello,
I am looking forward to uplifting adult conversation. Sometimes I prefer the company of my children who are non verbal. They can be demanding but the mindgames are far more straightforward than our teenagers.
We live just north of Montpelier, our fair capital. lol the only capital remaining in the US without a McDonald's. We are about an hour 20 minutes from Springfield.
We have built up our responsibilities over time. I do look forward to the winter when the outside animal chores are far less demanding. This was our second summer doing pigs. the thought of raising a sow and boar to have piglets is enticing because the cost per piglet would be significantly less but I have very little interest at this time of overwintering pigs.
Glad to have the warm greeting. I look forward to putting info with names.

Posted - Dec 06 2010 : 6:46:42 PM Welcome Holly: your life must be very rewarding, I know it is a lot of hard work, but there is something about taking care of those that are not able to do for their self. I did home health for a few years and really enjoyed it. I lost the lady I was a caregiver for the last of May and I really do miss her I'd known her for over 30 years. She was the mother to my next door neighbor. They are more than neighbors or friends they are family, so when he ask me to take care of his mom I did it in a heartbeat, quit my old job on Monday and went to take care of her on Tuesday. They came in everyday to let me have an hour to come out to the house to throw bread to the chickens and horses, and to take care of my kitty babies, otherwise I was pretty much there 24/7 I did take a few hours on Saturday to go get our groceries. As long as she was able to go though I loaded her in the car and away we went. She had Alzhimer. need to close guess I've rattled long enough. Have a great day. Lola
Every day, in every way, I become better and better. |

Wow - I was born and grew up in Vermont, and I never heard of Worcester - where in Vermont is it? I grew up in Springfield and then moved to Chester for 10 years before finally moving to PA in 1985.
Good to have you here with us on MJF!

Lifes not about the breaths you take, but the moments that take your breath away.
Just a small town country girl, farmgirl, loggergirl, trying to live her dreams. :)
P.s. I've been playing around with the spelling of my name ( weird I know) and I've decided that I will stick with Hannah for good. Sorry I got you all confused. Hugs!! |
