Posted - Jul 05 2011 : 11:05:01 AM Having rolled over to 41 this last earth day i am curious how many others are here in my age bracket. I love that there is an over 50 group here! Personally I love my age now. I would not want to go back to my 30's nor 20's. (k, maybe take my thighs from then but otherwise.... no!) I think we should start a 40's group. Figure most of us prob have kids about the same age, going through similar issues in life.... shout out if this interest you as well. :)
I have one daughter, 19 who just moved back home having changed colleges and majors. She had 3 of her 5 years for elec engineer finished when she decided she didnt want that kind of math for life. So on to Nursing, which i think she will enjoy more.
Married 20 years this coming october to my best friend. New puppy, i retired 2 years back, hubby travels for work and i tag along alot. grew up on a dairy farm in NE and so want a farm again. We are rural now on a lake but farm animals are not in the plan for this home. The next home (which will be our final home) yes!

Posted - Jan 18 2012 : 5:51:54 PM Hello Kimberly I do love to sew. I can not remember a time when I wasn't in front of a machine. My mother and grandmother had me on a tredle machine when I was five. I had very well dressed Barbies. Then it progressed from there. But having kids has giving me the time to pursue other loves my mother gave me like gardening and baking. She grew up on a big farm and was a master gardener and she was also a queen at baking. She won many contest (some nationally) for her baking and recipes. I am addicted to gardening and baking. My kids--even the boys are enjoying learning all three.
My youngest--Lily just turned six in Dec. She was very excited. I think that is the age when they really start making friends and connecting with their world. I love doing birthday parties for my kids. It is the big hugs and kisses from them that make me so excited.
I hope you have a wonderful day

Posted - Jan 18 2012 : 2:55:12 PM Wow Suzanne. Sewing is not my forte, you must be very talented to design and make them and have people come all that way for them!!
Well Ladies, I'm a step closer to officially being in the 40s group. Just turned 39. Holy Cow!!! Like some of you I got a late start on the marriage and children thing so my babies are still little. The best part of my birthday was my children's excitment. They sang happy birthday to me in the restaurant and they insisted that Daddy stop at a store so they could get Momma a birthday gift. Now my son is anxiously awaiting his sixth birthday in February and my daughter talks about when she turns five (uh Nikole you JUST turned four). We try to make birthdays a special occasion around here.
Hope you are all having a splendid day.

Posted - Jan 17 2012 : 3:31:06 PM Hello Marilyn Thanks for letting me know where this thread is.
I looked for the thread and didn't see it before. I guess I am blind. You have had some fun too I see. My first husband was actually at 27---a real jerk from England. But I got the only thing good he had in him and that is my son Andrew. My ex left when I was 8 weeks pregnant and I have never seen or heard from him again. Chris--My wonderful husband adopted Andrew and then we had three more sweet peas. I met him in my mid- 30's I am a Couturier I spent 20 years designing and hand making silk wedding gowns for women between Hawaii to Germany. Now I work with vintage and antique textiles which is my real passion and much easier to handle with my kids. But I miss the travel. Let me clarify because after reading what I wrote above there may be a mis- understanding. The brides came to my studio. It was part of their contract or things were posted back and forth. The travel was to see friends and vendors. The textile addiction I picked during my travels.
I have enjoyed reading everyones stories and I hope that the 40+ farmgirls will keep posting.

Posted - Oct 29 2011 : 4:51:02 PM I'm almost there and honestly, I'm struggling with it a bit. I'll be turning 40 in March. It's hard for me to face that, but I've got some things planned that I've never done before thanks to an awesome husband and friends. (going sea kayaking, climbing Mount Hood)
I love where my boys are right now, but I'm kind of missing having a little one in the house. My boys are 8, 9 and almost 12. Pretty soon I'll be in my last year without a teenager. Where has the time gone?
Maybe that is what kind of scares me about turning 40. Life just seems to be passing by so quickly and I don't want it to.
It really helps to hear from some of you who are just a couple of years ahead of me. To know it's all right and even great!
So, can I join in even though I'm just not quite there yet?

Posted - Oct 29 2011 : 4:03:28 PM I'm 42. I've been married 6 wonderful years and we have a 4 yo boy. Married later in life (36). Started late on the family, but I'd rather have a child with the right man then have any with the wrong man. 30 was hard for me. I cried for 3 days because I was not where I had hoped to be at that age. But, I'm older, wiser and more happy than I ever was back then. Just wish I had more youth to keep up with my son and farm stuff.

Posted - Oct 27 2011 : 1:00:02 PM Since the over 50's age group is so big, I was excited to discover there are some of us that are over 40.
Tanya, what a pretty name! (Granted, I have a sister name Tanya also, so I may not be completely unbiased.)
I'm 45. I have two kids in college. I'm still thinking I have time to find "Mr. Right" that I can be married to for the next 20-30 years with like so many of you.
For now three horses, two cats, a poodle, and lots of dreams keep me busy. I'm blessed to lucky live on a horse ranch that also has chickens, cows, and more horses than I can count.

Posted - Oct 26 2011 : 4:49:39 PM Hi Everyone, I am new to MJF and this is my first post. I am 44, the mother of 2 grown sons, and have been married to my DH for 26 years. I'm a city girl with a longing for the country. My job is associated with agriculture and so I get reminded of my dream farm daily. Someday I'm going to make that dream a reality. I love to quilt, crochet, and I'm learning how to knit. I look forward to getting to know you all. - Terrie |

Posted - Sep 11 2011 : 1:23:02 PM It's funny you should mention becoming our parents, I just made that comment to my friend the other day. Her oldest is 17, mine 5 (I got a LATE start). It's just strange to think that she has a son that's the age we were when we were graduating high school together. And how much we have seen and done. The people we have loved and lost. You know you're getting old when...... LOL I thought it was hilarious when the gals that babysat for me were so shocked that I could be their mother age wise. Having such young children people assume you are younger than you are. :)

Posted - Aug 21 2011 : 3:10:55 PM I just celebrated #41, I have been mostly positive about my age. I was just reflecting yesterday on the deaths of two of my classmates in the last year. They both died from breast cancer. It's strange how I have become like my parents and grandparents by reading the obits to see whom I have outlived.

Posted - Aug 20 2011 : 6:09:09 PM I am turning the big 40 in November. This week I really feel it, been planting a lot of trees, but I guess that fact that I am still out there doing what I love, getting dirty and having fun is a good sign :) I always love every one of my B-days, no sadness, I have come through so much! I just stay busy and love my family and life and focus on only the positive, like finding all of you ladies, best part of my year so far!

Posted - Aug 14 2011 : 9:56:20 PM Hi everyone, I'm new to the site and am also new to this online chat forum. I may have accidentally posted something to someones message. It's blank, but if I did and your wondering what the heck?-Sorry!
Anyway, I would love to join the group. I was highly amused and somewhat relieved as I read of some of your daughters moving back in. I have a 23 year old that is moving back in for the 5th time. Two times I had completely redecorated for one of the younger boys so that they could have their own room, only to have to rewind for her. I think I'm losing square feet in that room.
So I have a total of 4 children. 23 year old daughter, 21 year old son, and 12 & 10 year old boys. Life is busy and full but when I can I squeeze in vegi gardening, reading, crafting ect....
So glad to find this forum and looking forward to getting to know some of you. |

Posted - Aug 12 2011 : 2:38:28 PM I can't agree more with the above posts. I love my hubby! He's talented and very handy too. He's cutting wood now for winter, and I am gathering and preserving everything that I can grow, glean or get really cheap. Wish more folks would get it through their heads that a government that does everything for you can take everything from you!
Kimberly, I think your are close enough to "40" to join us! We can be "40-ish Farm Girls"

Posted - Aug 12 2011 : 1:20:02 PM So true Sue. I'm blessed because my daddy is an old time farm boy raised on a stump ranch dirt poor so he knows how to make things work and build it himself. My husband is a farm boy too who knows mechanics, farming, welding etc. One of those that can make things better than the professionals. So when I needed a chicken coop my daddy and my husband built it with our toddler son helping. When my dishwasher quits working and poor little me has to wash dishes by hand (I'm spoilt and I like it that way) my hubby doesn't call in a repair man he fixes it. If something needs to be grown, crop wise, my husband is a genius at it. I don't take my vehicle in to mechanics because my husband can do it all. My areas are preserving food, gardening, livestock, children and natural medicine. I figure if we teach our children everything we know and encourage them to learn more on their own they'll be able to look after themselves and maybe help others along the way. |

Posted - Aug 12 2011 : 1:04:33 PM Isn't a good thing to teach our kids how to take care of ourselves. My oldest son once asked me why he needed to learn how to set up a garden. My response to him was that they say that you might pick out a gal just like dear old Mom and your wife might just want a garden, and you will look like a hero in her eyes, knowing how to do it! He smiled and said, yea. hehe

Posted - Aug 12 2011 : 08:27:55 AM I'm not 40 yet but I'm creeping up on it....can I join your group too??? I'm 38. Been married 8 years. Have a five year old and a 3 1/2 year old. I'm a Canuk (Canadian) who married an American. I enjoy gardening and then preserving the bounty. I have Nubian goats and make yoghurt, ice cream, cream cheese etc and I'm trying to teach myself to make cheese and milk soap. I'm homeschooling and loving it. I have chickens and just recently guinea fowl and I want Ancona ducks. Fascinated by spinning and weaving although I've never done it and I'm hoping to learn more about it and get alpacas. Just started with Satin rabbits. Want to raise meat and fur. My goal is to be as self sufficient as I can be and live a simple old fashioned life. I want my children raised farm style knowing how to do for themselves. |

Posted - Aug 11 2011 : 1:25:13 PM Thank you Lori. God speaks to us in so many ways. I find weeding very meditative when I finally get around to doing it. Its easier to listen when things are quiet. I guess that is one reason I like working with plants. ;)
