I figured since others put over 50, I wouldn't mind putting under 40, since I'm hoping to find some other organic girls in similar life situations to share with!That, and I thought it sounded funny =) I don't (can't?) have children, am not 'formally' working, but full time job remodeling our new house, in ADDCA school, and starting my own Coaching business. Anyhow, we bought our place in June and we LOVE it. Its almost 9 acres and is surrounded by 3 right-of-ways with a 300acre field behind us.
Due to some health issues (which include allergies to dairy, eggs, and yeast - ugh!) I am learning how to cook, etc that caters to that. We are starting slowly with a small garden. My fiance was tickled to get his very own John Deere tractor, originally a TN boy himself, he is in heaven. This is our little piece of heaven. I'm excited to plant things that are expensive at the store, minimize the trips to Whole Foods in Houston, and harvest an awesome blackberry crop next year (rain!!??) I have many questions..even down to pest management of the garden, AND home (mice? almost totally have 'em zapped! previous owners were awful w/it!)! Questions on growing Stevia down here and many other fun things. I cook w/many unusual flours now and hope to add to the conversation! I love the natural down home life & am excited to share.

Wow, thanks for sharing what yall do &how you all live- so impressive & encouraging! Ha! Just occurred to me that If I spent as much time as I do in the grocery every week, I could probably could create what you guys do! It takes FOREVER because I have to read EVERY label for allergins- NOT fun! Not to mention the higher price of food etc! That's another reason we bought this - hoping to save money & headache & increase enjoyment. We' both LOVE nature! Right now, though, what is right I. Front of me is trying to figure out how to work w/ my adolescent Cane Corso who is digging & chewing ... bEFORE he gains his 20-30lbs!

WElcome from Texas also! We live on 4 acres,I am a SAHM that homeschools 2 teens and takes care of cows, goats, chickens, quail, rabbits and 3 family dogs..lol. I wouldnt have it any other way. I also do all of the gardening too!

Welcome from Washington. I sprout and grind grains for baking. Prefer to do as much as I can organic or grown myself but I'm not completely set up yet. Trying to get to the point that I raise all my own meat too (I'm an allergy gal too). You'll find lots of ladies here that can do amazing things to learn from.

So cool you are in TX too, Linda - love it! A barn for your birthday! and Cooking God's food! yes, indeed! that is even better way to say clean organic living. My best friend's 4y.o. little girl says one day "Momma, you gotta feed the God-pod" (our bodies) & I just love that. God's food for the God pod.
hmmm...would love to know what all you do with the different animals - particularly the birds - chickens, geese, turkey (thanksgiving is coming??), and quail...??? I'm allergic to eggs, can eat chicken, but wonder about other birds...Keith was reading that one organic farmer would let his geese out at night to eat all bugs off his garden rows, no pesticides. I thought it would be hilarious to watch geese line my big dogs out! We wont be getting any soon, but its in the sites...

Hi Christine! Welcome to the MJ Farmgirls. You will learn a lot from here. Just get in and start reading, and you can even ask questions and someone will answer. I love it and this is my third year to be a part. I live on 15 acres, with a 1 1/2 acre pond. I am full-time stay at home, and love it. I have a garden, chickens, geese, and turkey, and quail. I have a barn I got for my birthday last year. I also cook Gods food, not mans food.(you know no processed foods). So it is a challenge sometime. I also cook with the different flours. I saw Stevia plants for sell at gardens centers last year, so asssuming they will grow here. Tho, I have to tell you, I am in the the over 60 range, I have 2 children and 4 grandchildren. We have a family compound on our property, that most all of our family lives here. We have a blast. I am the Mayor, so of course things run smooth!!! Our blackberries, were very small and few this year. hopefully next year will be better. year before I put up 4 gallons of berries in freezer and made jelly.
