Hi!

Farming is in my blood... I am descended from German farmers who settled in Michigan and took their produce to Eastern Market every weekend. Gran used to tell me all kinds of farm stories from her childhood.

I kept chickens and ducks in southwest Florida, but now we're buying a house on 2 acres, and my farmgirl pulse has really begun to pound! I'm so excited about digging in this spring with fruit trees, nut trees, a bee hive, my chickens and ducks, a couple of dairy goats... Not everything at once, of course.

A friend introduced me to MaryJane's magazine, and now I'm hooked! I can't wait to subscribe to the magazine as well as the sisterhood and start working on my merit badges!! I'm also hoping to meet other farmgirls in the Charlotte area and look forward to finding a local chapter or starting my own.

Hi, Nancy!

Thanks for the Florida welcome! That's where we moved from... My husband is born and raised in Fort Myers, FL, and I moved down from Michigan to marry him. I was in Florida about 10 years before we moved here to NC a few weeks ago. Well, my husband had moved up here a couple months ago to start working, and then the kids and I followed once we had the house. And here we are... :o) In fact our POD just arrived this morning, so I can finally wash clothes!! And I can go grocery shopping since we didn't have a fridge here at the house, and ours is just waiting to be unpacked and plugged in. Woo-hoo!

Kathy, I thought of you today when we drove through Gastonia on our way back up to Hickory after picking up our new baby goat from Monroe. (She is so cute!! Creamy tan nubian, 3 days old, named Penelope)

Thank you, CJ!! I appreciate the warm welcome! :o)

Kris,
Gastonia is at the intersection of hwy 321 and I85. If your staying in Hickory this week, I'm about 50 miles south on hwy 321, and about 20 miles from Charlotte on I-85.

Kathy, I had found the group on the MJF site and sent an email requesting information. I haven't heard anything back yet, so maybe they don't exist anymore. I'll be in Midland as of next week. How far is Gastonia from Midland? I know I've driven through there or past there in the last week or so between Charlotte and Taylorsville.

Kris,
I haven't heard anything about a group in Charlotte but let me know what you find out. I don't go to the big city very often but might be able to find my way for some farm girl fun.

Thank you, Kimberly!

As soon as we move into the house, I'll be unpacking and organizing, and then I'll start my project lists and time lines. Good luck with your fruit trees!!

And I screwed up... The auction I mentioned is actually NEXT Saturday.

I'm no where near the Charlotte area but a hardy welcome from Washington! You sound like me, I've got goats, horse, chickens, guinea fowl, rabbits...... I'm hoping to plant fruit trees next year, we just moved here this year and only so much can get done at one time. :S

Excuse the mess & the noise, my children are making happy memories

Thanks, Kathy!

So far I'm loving it! The boys and I are staying near Hickory until next week, when we'll be in our new house!! Do you belong to a FG Chapter where you live? I emailed somebody about joining the Charlotte one but haven't heard anything back yet.

We're going to a livestock auction tomorrow in Vale, so that should be exciting!! :o)

Welcome Kris from another NC girl. I live not too far from you, over in Gaston County. We boarder Mecklenburg county just the opposite side from you. I hope you like North Carolina and I know you will love it here at Mary Janes Farm.
