Posted - Feb 02 2012 : 2:32:38 PM Hi Again Everyone, I've been away for quite some time. But I've decided to start connecting and posting again. I'm starting a new chapter in life that is bringing me back to focusing on our farm. I'm rather excited for it all, but nervous too. I thought it would be fun to plug in and reconnect. So howdy! Hope you are all doing well!

Posted - Feb 06 2012 : 08:43:14 AM Hi Again! We had a busy weekend on the farm so I wasn't online much. We sheared the sheep on Saturday. We decided to shear before lambing this year and we are already expecting lambs as soon as the end of the month! Then Saturday afternoon some folks rehomed a pair of geese with us. I've never had geese before. Then Sunday was a beautiful day again, so after church I went out and puttered in the garden cleaning up the last of what I didn't get to in the fall. I found some carrots I'd missed... nice and crisp. Alee if you're in the area by all means give me a shout and we can meet up for tea! That would be fun! Linda, you asked about llamas - well we've enjoyed ours for the most part. (One of them can be a handful and kicked me in the knee once) but other than spitting occassionally, they are great guards for the sheep. They eat hay like the sheep so they don't cost much to keep and they live up to like 20 years. We found they work better for us than guard dogs. Their alert call sounds like a turkey - its lots of fun! We have one white one and one black one. We have tourists stop all summer long to see them. Some even want to take their picture with the black one.

Posted - Feb 03 2012 : 10:22:54 PM Hello Alyssa, I have always wondered about llamas as pets. Is it difficult to keep them? And your farm sounds great but I bet it is a lot of work. Do the kids help?
With lots of hugs and smiles, have a great day. |

Posted - Feb 03 2012 : 08:58:56 AM Thanks everyone! Alee we still have our Romney sheep (I'm surprised anyone remembers me)... my neighbor and good friend just got goats though. In the time I was gone, we've added a Dexter Cow and she had a calf last May that we still have. And my step-daughter got some rabbits. We still have chickens and our two guard llamas. Its become quite the collection!
