Well, I am gonna try this again now that I understand a little better how to.

My name is Lainey Lou and I am new to the sisterhood, #3848. I live in Marietta , Ga. right on the border of Kennesaw, Acworth, and Woodstock just a little north of Atlanta. I was born in Hawaii, lived in Texas most of my life or until I had a really bad on the job accident that left me disabled and unemployeable. I was trying unsuccessfully to figure out what I was gonna do with my life when through a series of events I ended up in Gadsen, Al. on a hobby farm living with my Aunt. Both of us had recently divorced and gotten the worst end of the deal and were a little bitter but knowing that wouldn't last long. It was quite different from what I was used to but I needed the change. Somewhere along the way I meet my husband, we dated for 3 yrs. Married in 2007 and here I am.

My disability leaves me unable to lift more than 5 lbs., or stand for any length of time. I walk with a cane when I walk or ride my little go-cart and do all right for someone that wasn't expected to walk again. I am in a lot of pain all of the time and am on very strong pain killers as a result, so sometimes I forget things or get confused so I will apologize ahead of time. That usally only happens when I am real tired tho' so I do okay.

We like to go, go camping, go fishing, go to bead shows, just go and see what we can see. My hubby works one week and is off one week so it leaves us plenty of time to go. I have two sons, Cloudy is the oldest and will be getting married this Apr. 1, and Dallas is my baby. Cloudy has given me a Grandson Caiden (11), and Dallas and Tawnya have given me Jakob (11), Adelyn (8), and Zackary (6). Then I have a stepdaughter Melody who gave me Dillon (12). I also have a stepson who just graduated with a degree in pyschology. They are a good looking group of people and I enjoy them all and miss my grandkids who all reside in Texas terribly.

I lost my Mother to cancer last summer, came on real sudden and was over before it had even sunk in. I really miss her. My father passed from Cancer in the mid 90's. I am the oldest of 7 children, the rest live in Texas so I am out here pretty much on my own which is why I need the sisterhood, I am used to family!!!

Before I got hurt I did everything I could think of, now because of my limitations I do mostly crafts. I am learning crochet and doing pretty good at that. so now I am trying to learn to knit, not sure how it's going yet. I love beads and making jewelry. I paint when I get the chance and draw. I love to cook, just don't as much anymore.

I love smelly candles and potpurri, anything cobalt blue, or southwest style.

I want to get involved in the secret sister hood, and the different swaps that I see going on.

So, if I have bored you long enough with my chatter, then you understand I need something to do - so invite me ladies, I'm ready to get going!!!

Happy to be here...Lainey Lou

... well shucks ya'll, as long as we're all here we might as well dance !

I addressed your story in the other forum and confessed my goof and left you another message. Yes this is great fun. As with you, I haven't laughed that hard in a while. And get this, my husband was doing our taxes a couple of nights ago and we got to talking about something (I had told him about my booboo) and he asked me how old I was gonna be this year. ( He teases me 'cause I am a few years older than him.) I told him , "15" , and just grinned and we both laughed at that. So I am still having fun with it just as you are! Take care my wonderful farm sister!

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we might as well dance.

Hi Lainey Lou,

I spelled that right didn't I? I am new around here too. I am a mother of 2 and a grandmother of 4 wonderful little girls. One, Kyra, who is 4, is from my son, who I hardly ever get to see as he's in the air force and moves around a lot. The other 3, Jada-10, Juli-8, and Avari-2 are from my daughter who lives about 40 minute away, but I don't get to see them much more often than my son; they're pretty busy. So, for all intents, I'm alone too. I have been separated from my 2nd husband since 1992; he lives in TX. I live in OK, but I've lived a few places before I got here.

I enjoy reading and I dabble at writing. I knit, crochet, and sew at a beginners level; I've been at this level most of my life as I've had no one to show more advance techniques. I love beading too, but I've only been able to go to one show. I love to cook and I'm really good at it, but I'm also not able to do it as as much as I'd like because I too am disabled and as Social Security has not deemed is necessary to step up for me(I wish your husband good luck) so I have no real income.

I have no answers for pain, but a good massage goes a long way...hmmmm.

I hope to keep in contact with all of you.

If there is a will, there's a way; find your way!

Hi from central GA!! Marietta has two nice quilt shops that I enjoy. Quilting is my main hobby but I have dappled with beads.... very basic stuff. The Bead Show in ATL is truly overwhelming. Been once with some girls from work. You will find some great girls here. Hope to see you around, Barbara

Don't forget to laugh!

Marianne,

So nice to meet you and I am so sorry for you as I really know what you are going through. I had scoliosis as I was growing up and lordosis (crooked from front to back) but was lucky enough in my youth not to be too bothered with pain. I worked for Southwestern Bell when I got hurt as a line man and was up a pole when through a bad series of events I fell 22' and broke my sternum and shattered T12 and L1. They had to take bone from my right hip to replace the two vertebrae I shattered and then they fused me from T8 to L3 so I don't bend too well or twist. What caused the worst of my pain tho' was when they did the surgery they wrapped my sciatic nerve around one of the screws they used when they were putting the rods in my back and it took me 7 years to convince them there was something wrong with what they did. Of course by the time they did the surgery to fix it the damage had been done and was not reverseable and as you I am a walking (barely) talking weather forecaster with all my arthirits. I have some heart issues from the fall and I crushed most of my teeth but the back is by far the most painful. As a result of all that I now am a diabetic, have asthma, and blah, blah, blah. It's so hard to be dependent on others after being so independent all those years and because I am a large girl if I am at the store or somewhere and have to ask for help people look at me like I am nuts because they can't tell I have anything wrong with me just by looking. I am sure you can relate - but enough of that. It leaves me being full of all kinds of Ideas and being reduced to supervisor most of the time as I am unable to do a lot of things.

Sorry to say I don't have any secrets to help with pain. I have really big shoulders tho'and am a good listener if you need one!

I too lucked out when I met my husband, he's a sweetheart and although we will have been married for only 5 years this July I feel confident we will be together for the rest of our years.

Well I guess I have bent your ear long enough for you to get through a cup of coffee so will let you go for now. Really nice meeting you tho'. Take care...

Lainey Lou

I also know you from our over 50's group!! So happy to have the opportunity to know you better. As everyone else has said - We have a lot in common.

I have scoliosis and had my back fused (except for three vertebrae at my neck and three in the lumbar region) when I was 16. I have had pain all my life due to it and with the resulting arthritis settling in, I have had to continually increase the pain meds ... so I often put out the same disclaimer you do - forgive me if I get confused or forgetful, the pain meds made me do it!

I am very lucky despite that early setback in my life - I met a wonderful man and have been married to him for 26 years. I got a son with the deal and we have a daughter together. Our son has two daughters, but we don't get to see or hear from them ... Our daughter is just starting her career after having graduated with two business degrees - a bachelors and masters.

I absolutely love crafting. Have done it all my life. I have slowed down lately because arthritis has really invaded my hands. I tried to gather to make a ruffle this weekend and only got half of it done. Very frustrating.

I do enjoy gardening - I am a farmer's daughter and must have my zucchini and tomatoes. (Or maybe I need them because I am Italian.) I have a while to wait to get my fingers in the soil here in eastern Washington!!

Welcome, new friend, see you often! And please share any ideas you have about coping with life on major medication ...

Luanne and Jennifer, so nice to meet you also I bet I have met and communicated with more people in the last six days than I have the whole time I have been in Georgia!
Mind you I am not complaining, rather I am loving it. I just wish you all lived close so we could all get together and have a big ole henhouse, if you know what I mean!!!
I am about two and a half hours west of Savannah Luanne. My husband and I stopped there on the way to Fla. and they have the most beautiful old homes - I could have stayed for a week and just driven around. Hopeyou get to go there , You'ld really enjoy it!

Hi Lainey Lou!

Welcome from Northeast PA! Are you anywhere near Savannah? That's one of the places on my list to visit one of these days when I have time and money - maybe after I retire!

I'm a knitter too, so good luck with learning. I think you will love it once you get into it.

Hugs,
Luanne

Well gosh girls, I really feel welcome! and like I have some real sisters. Penny, Laurie, Leslea, Marilyn, Karla, Marly, and Amy I am really glad to meet all of you ladies! And what's even better is I feel like I am among likeminded women, which is wonderful. That's me smiling from ear to ear! Have any of you gotten your merit badges? I sent the stuff in for my first one and have just about finished another. I want to get a blue jean jacket to put them (the badges)on. How have y'all done yours?
I've had the TV on all day today, they have Nora Roberts movies on all day,I have read most of her books and really like them. They are an easy read and keep the mind occupied. Got hooked on them when I was recovering from my accident. I had lots of time with nothing else to do.
Well, my tummy is growling so loud I can't hear myself think - guess I better feed it something.
Have a wonderful blessed Sunday and thank you again for inviting me in with open arms. It's a real nice feeling on a gloomy Sunday afternoon!

Laney Lou, thank you for sharing yourself with us...I understand needing the sisters here on MJF...you will love it here, but bet you are tired of me saying that to you...lol...If you want to know more about any of us...just ask, we are glad to share so that you also know who we are...I will go ahead and start by telling you about me. I got married again in 2009 live on a 88.25 acre farm with 5 dogs, 1 cat and 2 horses. I garden some when my arthritis lets me...and when I'm not doing stupid stuff like spraining my ankle which I did in Dec...was on crutches for about 4 wks..but gettin around better now. My DH is also disabled and trying to get disability started. He broke his back in 85 and was paralyzed for 5 months and told he would never walk again...he also walks with a cane. We have 5 children all together...I have 2 sons, Billy and David, and 2 grandsons from Billy, Tyler 12 almost 13 on the 7th and Kyle 15 that I was lucky to get when Billy married his Mom. David isn't married. Jim has 2 sons and a daughter...his youngest got married on my birthday in 2010. No grands from his kids yet. His oldest is an actor in CA and his daughter a model and business owner...I have a blog that you can check out...it is still in the beginning stages but I have enjoyed do it alot. It lets me talk alot even if it is to myself...lol.... I have 2 brothers, one that died in 2010 and one that is battling cancer(he has two sons and one granddaughter) and a younger sister that is 16 yrs younger than me (she has 2 daughters and 1 son).

I lost my Dad when I was 8 from a heart attack and my sweet Momma in 2006 from COPD.

I love crafts also...I crochet, sew, love paper crafting and scrapbooking....I also am trying to teach myself to knit...so we have alot in common....

I'm sorry you live so far away from family...I only live a little over 2 hours away from mine but still don't get to see them much. So there ya go....now you know about me...lol...and I'm sure it is more than you really wanted to know...check out my blog if you want...the link is at the bottom of this post.
