I have been checking the forums a little over the last couple of years but now I am back in full force. We have been traveling the country looking for a little homestead and lo and behold, we landed back in Wisconsin! Found an over 100 year old cottage with some land and outbuildings. Located just outside of Waupaca, WI in the town of Farmington. We are very close to the area called "Chain O Lakes" and the Ice Age Trail and Hartman Creek State Park are just down the road. So far I have been very busy painting and decorating. Our only furniture was in the camper so I went antiquing and flea marketing. I am looking forward to getting some chickens and goats in the spring. Already cruising the seed and plant catalogs. Looking forward to reconnecting with my Farmgirl Friends.

Thank you to all my Farmgirl Friends for all the well wishes. I am so glad to be in a home without wheels and with good internet connection so I can catch up with all of you. I have been very busy getting the little house all cleaned and painted. I will be posting some photos soon. Thank you all again, it feels so good to be home.

Welcome Home Diane!! Your new Homestead looks awesome and I look forward to seeing all of the new things you will be doing there. A 100 year old cottage must have some pretty cool features. What caught your eye first when you saw it?

Thanks everyone! Sara, we were looking for a small house. This one is 900 square feet and it is just right! Shannon, I want just four laying hens, haven't decided on the breed yet. As for the goats, we will be getting Nigerian Dwarf goats to help clean up the land and for milk and meat. Nigerian Dwarfs are the perfect size and have great milk and meat. Just right for a small homestead. We have 3 acres and 2 are mostly wooded with mixture of oak and pine. Funny thing is we didn't think we would miss the winter but after spending the last couple without any snow we missed it. You can take the girl out of Wisconsin but you can't take the Wisconsin out of the girl. After leaving, I fell even more in love with my beautiful home State.

Diane - welcome back to the Farm! Sounds like you have found the perfect spot :) The picture is just lovely!!! You mentioned getting chickens and goats. Any idea what breed you might look at purchasing? Are you after eggs or meat? And dairy or meat? We are trying to plan our future homestead and there is so much to look forward to!!!
