Howdy everyone! Want to introduce myself and hopefully get to know a lot of you other fans of MJF. Like so many, I just picked up one of her mags in the store and I was hooked. Ordered all the past issues and her two books and love reading them. So much to learn, so little time.

My husband and I live nine miles outside Custer, SD in the southern Black Hills. We bought the land six years ago and just moved into our dream home last July and have been in the process of getting what we need for the place ever since. We have little over 9.5 acres and the house sits on top of a ridge where we can see forever. We love the peace and quiet and being one with nature. We have two dogs that think they're in doggy heaven up here with so much room to run around in. We enjoy the deer and turkey that come to feed every day and once in awhile we've heard an Elk. This is the life. Having come from the busy big city of Minneapolis, this country life is so much better and so much fun. And country people are the best there is. We have so much to do this coming season - planting local grasses and wildflowers instead of grass you have to mow, putting in a clothes line to use less energy, do some container gardening until we can build a raised garden with fencing and all that good getting back to nature stuff. My husband is starting to learn woodworking and I've gotten back into knitting, sewing, crocheting, making rag rugs, weaving, baking and can't wait to learn how to put up my own veggies and fruits. There's so much to learn and this is an excellent forum to learn from others.

I look forward to this experience and making new friends along the way. Peace and love to all of you.

Annie S.

Hi Annie - we were passing thru Custer last year on a family vacation, pulling a trailer, during the Sturgis rally days. Crazy!

Annie,
Welcome!! So glad to have you! The Black Hills is the only place I like in SD! I use to live in Hermosa, and my family still have land and a home there! I used to take my kids to the park and lay by the prairie dog towns and watch them! So many great things to do there! I hope you are enjoying your new found piece of heaven on earth!

This is a wonderful place and I hope you enjoy it here! I look forward to hearing more about your place, hobbies, and interest! See you round the farm!
Hugz!

Annie,

I LOVE the Black Hills! Actually, I think South Dakota is a pretty neat state!

We were in your parts last August. I'd always wanted to take my daughter to the Black Hills and last year we made it! I lived and worked at Wind Cave NP back in 1986, so we visited that area, Mt. Rushmore (of course!), Badlands, the Rapid City area (I have a friend who lives in Black Hawk but until a couple of years ago, lived on a ranch near Martin, SD). I think I could make a trip there every year. I just LOVE IT there!

Next time we make it your way, maybe we can stop by? (What kind of dogs do you have, btw?)

Welcome! Karin

Nice to meet you Annie!

I haven't been your way in a long time- I am originally from Wyoming and we would occasionally take trips to the Black Hills. The Custer area really is beautiful! It sounds like you have a wonderful homestead growing!
