I've only posted my intro here so far, but read everyday. I was trying to get all of my "ducks in a row" before I jumped in to start chatting with everyone.

My question is about etsy. I've opened up an etsy shop (which is soooo much easier to list in than ebay.) I've also visited the etsy forums and from what I understand is that the only way you get noticed is to promote on all of these other promotion sites that I've never heard of??? I've sold pretty successfully on ebay for 6 or so years but never had to promote off site like what they are suggesting.

I do want to start a blog and that is a way of promoting that I am comfortable with, I'm just not one of those "hey, look at what I've made" Does anyone have any advice on how to actually "sell" for me? I would greatly appreciate it.

Can't wait until I find a swap that is actually open! I get excited when I see a new post....only to find out that it is an old one!

Lea Ann,

I actually haven't spent much time on the forums, however, I have seen some threads that have been quite helpful and full of great information! The "newbie guides" are especially helpful! If I am reading a topic and it gets negative at all, I just stop reading it right away. It's easy to get discouraged by the people who post because they are angry about something. If I have a problem, I usually just contact etsy admin.

What I Have found that HAS helped me sell, is to "renew" items on the weekends, especially on Saturday. I'll just renew one item at a time all during the day, with them closer together in the evenings. When I do this, I see my number of views increase and I get "hearts" on my store or favorites on items. If you do that and then write down and keep track of your number of views, you start to get a feeling for when most people are shopping, or at least watching the time machine. It's also pretty fun to keep checking and see your number of views go up! :)

I would also try to have lots of items in your store, and don't upload items all at once. Each time you upload, your item appears on the time machine, so try to spread it out to maximize your exposure.

I also would try to give SUPERB customer service. People really do read feedback, and if people who buy from you leave raving feedback, it really helps. I always send a little "extra" in each package, something that doesn't cost a great deal but makes a HUGE difference. People who buy handmade often want the "handmade experience", to feel as if they get a sense of who you are as an artist.

I wouldn't bother with the showcases, because they are so expensive and the general consensus is that you just receive more hearts and no purchases. It's better to spend the money on renewing your items often.

I hope this helps! I've learned a lot from just reading the forums and experimenting on my own. Let me know if you have any questions! I'm still learning myself!

I wish you great success with your shop! I'd love to visit it! What is it called?

Jennie

I sell a few things through etsy. I have much more success when I list a few things at a time a couple times a week. If you go to my beloved-creations blog you can see all the things I have for sale on etsy. The way to get your own etsy on your blog is to log onto etsy and create a mini-etsy (see lower left side). Then copy and paste that code onto your blog. If you need some help, just email me.

I still don't understand how that was possible because you do not give Etsy any info about your paypal account. The payment go through the paypal site because they redirect you when you click pay with paypal. Did you contact etsy about the problem so they could verify it and remove the individual from the site?

Some fruitcake got into my Paypal account and etsy was the only one that I had ever used it with, so that would be the only access - I guess I should have said someone messed up my account THROUGH Etsy, not Etsy itself. I had to close the account.

Sherri how did it mess up your paypal account? They have no access to make changes to your account. I am just curious what happened?

I hope you have better luck with etsy than I did - I didn't like it at all and it messed my PayPal account all up.
