Here is a lovely started kit for aspiring crafters...
included is a sunny yellow 24 by 36 inch flour sack towel to practice
on, a 5 inch embroidery hoop, a needle inside a hand stitched wool pin
book and four colors of DMC floss- mossy green, cobalt, magenta and sky
blue.

Perfect for getting crafty on the go, also a perfect gift for
introducing a child to the pleasures of handwork-one who is old enough
to safely use a needle of course;)

This kit is $18.00 and does not include directions for
embroidery (I can direct you toward many wonderful resources if you like but I strongly encourage you to play with needle and thread first
before worrying about 'how' to do it correctly). What a lovely gift it would be for the holidays alongside MaryJane's Stitching Book.

You can see it on my etsy store

Warmly, Rebekka
