Posted - Jan 10 2008 : 08:45:29 AM Just bumping this up to say that the aprons are still looking for wearers! :)
I've just listed three aprons in my Etsy shop. They are currently featured at a very special price of $25 each. They are entirely hand-stitched, and the fabric is 100% cotton. One of them is done in a cheery red-and-white print - perfect for Valentine's Day! Here's the link to my shop:

Posted - Feb 20 2008 : 06:55:30 AM Thanks, Lea! The weaving is coming along - slowly, as it keeps getting pushed out of the way by the numerous other things I seem to have on the go at the moment. I'm still working on a practice piece of weaving. The loom I was given came with a rather ancient warp still on it, and my weaving teacher suggested that I use it to play around with, rather than waste all the work that had gone into the warping. The heddles and reed are a little rusty, which is not good, but as soon as I get this practice piece off the loom, I'm going to work on cleaning everything up. Once that's done, I can get on to some real projects! I'm really looking forward to that.

Posted - Jan 12 2008 : 3:27:51 PM Elizabeth!! I was able to cut out patterns for 14 new dresses and 4 skirts! wow...that really was a lot! I'm now cutting out dresses for my girls for our trip to Hawaii next month. We are going to some big fancy-shmancy traditional Hawaiin party and formal attire is required. Should be huge fun. The last time I went to Maui I found this awesome fabric store and bought a bunch of fabric..its been sitting around since today!! It is now washed and pressed and ready to be cut into dresses. I'm making outfits for the entire family..Starting with the girls.. Then I'm making my son an aloha shirt (fabric has ukeleles all over it!) and some new linen shorts. I have to make a dress for myself and then I'm making a sash for my husband. His sash will match my gown, but I think I'm going to add little bits of fabric representing each of the kids.. we'll see..All of us have very different fabrics so we won't look like the Von Trapp family!! I'm really thrilled about it. Like I said, I go through these cutting out pattern phases...that then turns into a sewing phase.. I basically don't sew at all in the late spring and summer. By then I'm out on the tractor and working in the gardens! but winter time is always incredible for sewing..it is so weird!! Many smiles to you..as soon as I get this apron done, I'll take some pictures! cheers, ~julia

Posted - Jan 12 2008 : 05:57:45 AM Julia, How many dresses did you end up cutting out? You've accomplished so much! I would hardly call that "lame". I must get around to more sewing one of these days...

Posted - Jan 11 2008 : 5:26:05 PM Elizabeth, I am so lame! I got this other wild hair that I acted upon instead. I have bags and bags of scrap fabric.. One of these days, I'm going to set up my iron and spend days and days ironing and cutting them into squares and strips for quilts..not right now though. So anyway, I had this bag of scrap fleece that was calling to me..begging me to find dress patterns that would be suitable. So I went through all that and cut out 4 new dresses for that. Dwindled that bag down to next to nothing. VERY satisfying. Then I decided to tackle a stack of fabric I've had laying around since September that was calling to me to finally cut out more dress patterns for that! Soooo, I sorted through all that..chose 3 different dress patterns in 3 different sizes and went to cutting out patterns. I think I cut out 8 or 9 of those. FUN! I have the most adorable dress with Rebekka's Bella in mind! This is how I seem to operate.. I sort through fabric..cut out several patterns at once and then I have a stack of things ready to sew whenever. It works for me.. I get a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment just going through the fabric..then if I can get a pattern or 2 cut I feel accomplished and THEN later on I can sew a little here and there.. Sooo..that poor nightgown is buried somewhere..will find it though and make it. I'm trying to sort some fabric for a new praire dress too! So much fun!! right now, however, I'm totally fried...time for a glass of wine and some major chiling!! I'll let you know when I get that apron done.. You will be my inspiration for sure!! many blessings your way! ~julia

Posted - Jan 11 2008 : 1:41:33 PM Julia, I know - it's quite amazing that these looms just appeared the moment they were needed! I can't wait to get started. Hopefully you'll find some time for weaving in the near future, too! How's it going with the nightgown-turned apron? I love making old things into new ones.

Posted - Jan 10 2008 : 6:25:04 PM Elizabeth, what kind of karma do you have going on up there in Ontario that someone would just plop a GORGEOUS giant loom in your lap! WOW!! I'm blown away... what great fortune.. I just love that.. Everything about those photographs is so serene..just the kind of energy I imagine when weaving.. I have a small table loom too. I've had it for years. I bought is from a woman who was going blind and couldn't see well enough to keep the threads sorted. Poor thing...sad for her but she was so happy to sell it to me.. I've held onto it since.. I'm in the process of raising children so taking up weaving has been shoved to the bottom of the barrel. It is one of those things that when the time is right, my weaving teacher will just walk into my life.. Perhaps that's you?!!!
I have this old nightgown that is torn in places that is just dying to be an apron.. I think I will go and make it ready for sewing!! blessings! Julia

Posted - Jan 10 2008 : 5:07:01 PM Thank you for all your kind comments! I really enjoyed making these aprons. I've kept one or two to myself, and I love to wear them. They make one feel so graceful. Julia - I am a "weaver want-to-be" who is just about to become a real weaver. I had my first weaving lesson the other day, using a small table loom. The full-sized loom you see in the apron picture was given to me by someone who didn't want it and was willing to send it off to a new home. Next to it (not visible in the picture) is another one, equally large, which is on loan from a friend. Now I'm just waiting for my weaving teacher to come over and show me the ropes. I'm a very happy girl! Hopefully, sometime this year, I'll be able to list handwoven items in my Etsy shop.
