Just wanted to let others know I am having some success with listing my no longer needed books on half.com. I wasn't sure how it would go, but I had three orders today alone, so if you're considering trying it, give it a shot. No expense to you unless you make a sale!

You can ship it however you feel comfortable. I wrap mine in a sheet of tissue paper (I have a lot as I use it to ship for my sewing business). Then I slip it in a bubble envelope. I purchased these in bulk, so they weren't too expensive. The buy has never had any insured or confirmed and I have yet to have any problems (knock on wood). Half.com provides you with a shipping allowance - a set amount for paperbacks and a higher amount for hard cover. Sometimes, depending on the size of the book, the allowance is actually higher than the cost of shipping, including the envelope. Sometimes, though, the shipping is higher than the allowance. As a good example, I recently shipped "Nourishing Traditions" - a large paperback cookbook to the east coast. I got the paperback allowance for shipping, but the cost was higher than the allowance because the book was so heavy. I think it all evens out though over time. I also recently shipped a small, Christian hardcover book, that I received the higher hardcover allowance for. It was such a small little book, it cost about half of the shipping allowance, so right there I made up for Nourishing Traditions. I'm having fun doing this and as I said, I haven't had any problems yet. If and when I do have a problem, I'll probably reevaluate how much fun and how profitable it is!!

Sherri - When you ship a book, do you just wrap it in brown paper or do you send it in a bubble envelope? And does the buyer have it insured? Do you pay for a confirmation of receipt? I'd like to try this.

Frannie - I've never listed anything on e-bay, but all you have to do on half.com is type in the ISBN number that's on the back of the book, click on what condition the book is in (brand new, like new, very good, etc.) and say what price you want for it. Takes about 15-20 seconds per book. Then they e-mail you with the address of the buyer when you sell one. The e-mail has a printable shipping label and packing slip right in it, so it couldn't be easier. Then they deposit your check twice a month into your checking account. Easy, easy!!
