Posted - Aug 20 2008 : 07:38:58 AM When I checked on Amazon they had several - both used and "new" for less than Borders. Of course that doesn't count the shipping cost..........but if you can find one "cheep" (get it - hehehe) enough, you should still come out ahead $$.
Good luck hunting! Let me know if you decide to get some chicks. We're hoping to get a pen built this fall. We bought back the land next to ours from my cousin. He had put a playhouse on it for his daughter and we're planning to use that for the house and build the pen around it. It's in the book - the one that has the house in the center and then one large pen that be sectioned off into 4 quarters (that's redundant, isn't it) so the chicken will only use one part of it at a time. Then they move to the next section and the first one can rest. It's a pretty cool idea. I hope we can pull it off!

Posted - Aug 19 2008 : 07:38:27 AM Tracy, if I remember right it was $20 at Borders. You may want to try amazon.com first to get it cheaper. The information is just as good in a used book as a new one! (I have to keep telling myself that - I tend to want things NOW!)

Posted - Aug 19 2008 : 06:40:06 AM I might just have to pick up this book at my local bookstore... I want to raise some chickens later on so this would give me a head start.

Posted - Aug 18 2008 : 04:51:24 AM Thanks, Laura! I'm a little nervous about it. My dad had chickens but I wasn't involved in caring for them at all so you're recommendation means a lot.
