On the 17th of Dec. the farm experienced 102 mph winds. We have a lot of damage and cleanup to do, trees are down, small buildings were tipped over, roofing blown off, etc. We were without electricity, water, and heat for several days. Our phone line takes messages, but we can’t use the phones. Our chatrooms and website are off-site so they’re still working. The biggest setback is the cellular tower on the ridge was hit hard; the top 80 feet of it is lying on the ground so we’ve been struggling to maintain communication. Presently, we’re using two AT&T cell phones as hotspots so that we can at least ship orders and print magazines. However, those functionalities come and go. We found out yesterday that the tower can’t be rebuilt for months so we're trying to figure out how to get service that matches our needs. Right now, our remote helpers can’t access our system, which means we can’t get to work on the next magazine unless we haul the contents of our server room and some of our computers to town.
We plan to self-publish MaryJanesFarm 4x/year.
April/May/June 2026 (theme: Memory Keeper/Readers Write deadline Feb 1)
July/August/Sept 2026 (theme: Daydreams/Readers Write deadline May 1)
Oct/Nov/Dec 2026 (theme: Everyday Miracles/Readers Write deadline Aug 1)
Jan/Feb/March 2027 (theme: Exclamation!/Readers Write deadline Nov 1)
We won’t have subscribers. We’ll sell the magazine issue by issue. The four issues will be available April 1, July 1, Oct 1, and Jan 1 and will sell for $19.79 each plus shipping.
Before the big wind, we started work on six new Merit Badges. Those will be available in the April/May/June 2026 issue along with an assortment of badge projects we’d finalized. Sisterhood Members will get a discount on that issue, and we’ll post planner/printable updates on the website.
We need to find a graphic designer willing to come to the farm every day and work here, not remotely. We have help presently for everything else.

Posted - Jan 03 2026 : 09:22:21 AM My dear Mary Jane, Thank you for the update. I was wondering when I received the Dec/Jan 2026 issue with the letter from the publisher stating they would not be publishing any future issues. I'm so sorry for all the damage and stressful situation. I will be praying for you all and what you have to do to recover. Hang tough with you Farmgirl Grit! Love and Hugs! CJ

Posted - Jan 03 2026 : 07:03:55 AM Ah..I'm so sorry, MaryJane! It's never a good time for a wind storm but especially right before Christmas and in the dead of winter. I'm glad that you're all safe and that things will return to normal as soon as possible for you, hopefully sooner than they expect. Your farmgirl spirit is inspiring!

Posted - Jan 02 2026 : 5:10:08 PM It is always a difficult and disruptive situation that Mother Nature can cause. I hope that the inconvenience it has created for your business and property will be resolved quickly.
Thank you very much for keeping us informed and for the update regarding the magazine. I appreciate your communication and continued engagement to the farmgirl community. It is nice to know that the magazine will be still published on a quarterly basis. I have valued your magazine since 2010 and still have every copy and look forward to purchasing the next editions as planned.

Posted - Jan 02 2026 : 08:45:15 AM Yes, the printable updates for Merit Badges will be all that you will need and yes, you will still apply for badges online in the same way--none of that will change.
The new badges will also show up here, where they will be printable, so you can update your planners: https://www.farmgirlsisterhood.org/merit-badges.asp
The first re-launch issue of the magazine, the April/May/June 2026 issue, will feature the six new Merit Badges accompanied by suggested how-to projects to earn them, recipes, crafting, etc. It'll have a Sisterhood emphasis along with Kudos and Sister interviews.
Hope that answers your questions Denise!

Posted - Jan 02 2026 : 08:27:15 AM Just to clarify, we won't be able to do the badges unless we get the magazine? Or the printable updates for our planners will have the badge information? Do we still apply for them in the same place online?
