Posted - Dec 15 2010 : 10:52:55 AM We took our 12 year old sp needs daughter into ER on Monday night. They say she's suffered a stroke. They're running a lot of tests and don't have any answers at this point. Please keep her in your prayers. Thank you.

Posted - Jan 27 2011 : 11:08:14 AM Oh, Jewel! I'm sooo happy to hear she's doing well. You amaze me with your strength - you're an inspiration! Amy is so blessed to have you as her mother... I can just imagine you there, right by her side, comforting with your healing words, your loving touch, and heartfelt cries to God in prayer through your mother's love. It makes me tear up whenever I think of you and the other farmgirls whose children are facing such horrific challenges. You're amazing. Simply amazing. God knew what He was doing when He chose all of you for these children's mothers. Keep up the faith, and we'll keep up the prayers for your sweet little girl. God bless you, Jewel. God bless you. Warm hugs - Nini

Posted - Jan 27 2011 : 10:50:06 AM Hello Dear Farm Girl Sisters! We're home and Amy is doing *wonderfully* well! Thank you all so much for your prayers and kind words! Honestly, we could *feel* being covered in prayers and they added so much comfort and peace. From my heart, Thank You!!
They ended up doing both procedures (one a direct fusing of blood vessels) and another indirect (drilling a hole in her skull about the size of a Dixie cup bottom to insert muscle tissue to grow new blood vessels), so she has a pretty large incision and needs to be careful not to hit her head or get bonked somehow until her skull closes (like a baby's). Her age has been an asset in healing well. She's walking and talking and being a typical 12 year old, which is a *wonderful* thing She'll go back to OHSU for a recheck in about a week, then again in 6 wks, then in 3 months, then in 6 mos, etc.
She does have Moyamoya, so she could have a stroke(s) on the other side some day, but we've learned a lot through this whole process: our faith is strong, take one day at a time, appreciate all the moments, adapt to a new normal, even if that new normal changes every day. We're not going to worry about tomorrow but appreciate the here and now.
I wish I could give you all a big hug. I read and reread your thoughts, words, and prayers throughout this process. Sincerely, thank you. With Love, Jewel

Posted - Jan 27 2011 : 10:14:05 AM I stand with ALL the farmgirls in prayer to the Holy Healer knowing He holds your daughter and keeps her safe in His hands until he gives back to your hands and loving care. I pray for all of you and the enormous strength you will need to carry you through all that He holds ahead. He will stand by you and guide you and dry your tears when you are not even aware that you are crying. We know the tears you shed in your heart and not seen by the world are the most painful kind. All will be well and His blessings upon all of you....Debra
Please Lord, give me patience....and give it to me NOW!!! Farmgirl #2116 |

Posted - Jan 18 2011 : 9:08:17 PM Good so far! I hear that OHSU is fantastic and a progressive hospital. So Amy has great chances there. I will continue to pray as she progresses into ICU. I know that God will put special nurses with her to give her the upmost care. Since hearing is often right there even if no one knows it, I pray that only words of healing are spoken and peaceful touches to her body are given. Many blessings on you for peaceful rest.

Posted - Jan 18 2011 : 3:27:21 PM Amy's surgery went really well. Both neuro teams (pediatric & adult) performed both procedures (direct & indirect) for getting the blood vessels restored. She's doing well. It's been about 8 hrs in surgery & doing the cerebral angiogram to see if the blood is flowing. She's being moved to the recovery room and then eventually adult ICU. We haven't seen her yet. Just wanted to give you all the good news.
Sherry, we went to Dornbecher/OHSU for the surgery.
Thank you for your prayers! xoxo

Posted - Jan 07 2011 : 07:52:05 AM Hi Sherry, Amy had a rough day on Monday & thought we'd have to take her back to ER, but after discussing w/neuro docs, we didn't have to. There's a local stroke support group that meets on Saturday at the hospital, so I'll go and check it out. Thanks for asking and caring and for all the prayer support. xoxo
