Posted - Apr 07 2011 : 03:55:47 AM Got "the call" last night as my dad was heading to Comumbus. His brother Bruce is slippng.
I posted about him maybe a few months back. Hospice really took care of thongs and his health stablizied. Sad how the system then took him off hospice and he slipped further this time.
Dad said last night Bruce's breathing was really labored and shallow and his arms and legs were super cold. A sure sign of his impending passng.
So we'll be waiting to get the call, and will then coordinate for a memorial service.
It will be a gigantic weight lifted off my dad, but it's the limbo that's the sad part to watch |

Sounds like we are going to have a smallish family reunion.
Sad that this is what it takes to get us all together.
I have another uncle and aunt who will be coming in from Baton Rouge |

Posted - Apr 19 2011 : 5:25:44 PM My dad called Sunday afternoon and said Bruce had passed earlier that morning.
The hospice nurse was there and called my dad to say there was no time.
Dad side to Bruce that it was ok. Just relax and everything was going to be ok and he would see their mom and dad very soon.
The nurse said Bruce passed about 3 minutes after the conversation took place.
So it was peaceful and pain free---hall-le-loo!
We'll go up to Columbus in May for the memorial service. He'll be cremated, so there's no rush My folks are headed up there tomorrow to tie up loose ends and collect some of Bruce's items. I bet that will be tough. At this stage in the game, he really didn't have much.
Thank you for your kind words and prayers. Thank goodness for Hospice |

Posted - Apr 08 2011 : 06:28:53 AM Please don't take this as a political stand in the wrong forum, but that's how the state system works .....and has given us a taste first hand of what "managed health care" is truly like.
Hospice was taken away when Brice's condition "appeared" to improve about a month and a half ago. Well ,duh! It did b/c the level of care was stepped up.
Couldn't they see the pattern!? And now we are paying the price.
Dad was going to stop back into the nursing home and double check on things this a.m..
He may come home later today......but perhaps only to have to turn back around in who knows how long.
It's an 8 hour drive, so I'm especially concerned about the road wear.
Thanks so much for the kind words and prayers |
