We just found out my BF's mother (91 years old) has rectal cancer. She is took weak and too old for chemo, but they are going to try a few radiation treatments. She is being moved from the hospital today to a nursing home where they will transport her by ambulance for her treatments. Would appreciate prayers for her and the family.

Thanks,

Luanne

Hi Nini -

Thanks for asking and for your prayers. She is very weak and the radiation and chemo are taking a lot out of her. We are praying that the radiation will at least shrink her tumor so she can be more comfortable. At 91, there isn't much else that can be done - surgery isn't an option at this point.

Your friend is about the age of my Mom. By that age, it is hard for them to muster up the stamina to perservere. I have found I need to bolster my Mom during her several problems. May others step up to be her support in compassion and humor too, and may we be consistent in our prayers for her. Thanks for bringing your concern to us.

Hi Debbie -

Thanks so much for the encouragement - we hope something will be able to be done for "Mom", but at 91 she is not a good candidate for anything but radiation. Like you said, though, miracles do happen!

Have a wonderful time visiting and celebrating with your friend! I've always wanted to visit Savannah - maybe someday!

Hugs,
Luanne

Hi Luanne, my girlfriend was diagnosed with Rectal Cancer May 2010 she is 58 years old. Here tumor was 6 centimeters. After aggressive Chemo and Radiation for 4 months I can now say she is cancer free, it was 1 year May 12th since she was first diagnosed and they found no sign of the tumor. So, there is hope for you BF's Mother, I will keep her and the family in my thoughts and prayers.
I am going next month to Savannah to visit my friend and celebrate with her. Miracles do happy.
Famgirl Hugs,
Debbie

Thanks everyone - she will probably be transferred to a skilled nursing facility over the weekend and then will start radiation some time next week. I don't know if it will help, but it's the only thing the doctors feel is safe for her to try at her age. Your prayers and good thoughts are really appreciated!
