Posted - Aug 08 2013 : 10:42:38 PM Hi all! Our youngest daughter, Aly, is 6 weeks old today. She is giving us quite the scare and we would appreciate any and all prayers! We are at this time uncertain if she is fighting a blood infection, or what is going on, however, if we do not wake her every couple hours, she falls into an extremely deep sleep and is very hard to wake up! The other night she went almost 9 hours between feedings (she is exclusively breastfed) and took almost three minutes to wake up, with a sternum rub (rubbing your knuckles over the sternum). Our doctor is concerned enough, that we actually have been given her cell phone number, so we can get ahold of her at any time. Please pray for our sweet baby, but also for our five other children (ages almost 10, 7, 6, 4, and 2). They too are quite worried about their sister and it is taking a toll on all of us! Thank you!!! |

Posted - Aug 27 2013 : 06:01:59 AM As of yet, we have no answers, but honestly, I think we are going to quit searching and just keep an eye on her. She hasn't slept so heavy since, so I'm praying it was a fluke. At the same time, I know that SIDS is very real, and I wonder at times if that was what we were close to experiencing. At the same time, I know God has already predetermined the number of days for each of us, and I must trust Him with her life. On a high note, she has gained weight and is sitting at the 25%. |

Posted - Aug 13 2013 : 6:27:24 PM Thank you so much for your prayers!!! We have no answers, but Aly seems to be doing better. Friday and Saturday she ran a low grade fever but would then drop below normal (she would go from 100-101 and then an hour later be 97-98). Then she broke out in a rash - guessing viral. Since then, she seems to be doing alright - eating every other hour throughout the day and every three or four hours at night. Unfortunately, she spends a lot of time screaming at me though as well. She is gaining weight, so I know she is getting enough to eat, and she isn't dehydrated. I'm starting to track what i am eating to watch for food allergies. But food allergies and a virus really does not explain the difficulty in breathing or her issues with maintaining a normal temperature. I really just do not know - but am thankful God does!!!! |

Posted - Aug 10 2013 : 8:23:56 PM Shannon Praying for your baby and family. If I may give a suggestion-Wake the baby up every 2-3 hours and have her nurse. You don't want her to become dehydrated. Make sure she is urinating enough also. If anything feels uncomfortable at all go to the ER! Above all know that God is in control and lay your hands on her and pray for her healing. God always answers prayers. All of your Sisters here are storming heaven on her behalf. How awesome that we have each other!

Posted - Aug 10 2013 : 12:48:02 PM Will absolutely be praying! I have no doubt that your current pediatrician is on top of things but I can't help but send you this website link: http://www.ncchildrenshospital.org/ourhospital
I am employed there and I see every day the genuine caring of physicians, nurses, social workers, respiratory therapists, etc. They treat patients as a team when necessary. And there are a lot of financial resources available if needed. Plus, being a research hospital, there are a lot of study patients where there would possibly be little or no costs to the family.
I pray that your family never has to take advantage of specialty services like this but I just wanted to give you the info.
Hugs, Darlene

Posted - Aug 10 2013 : 11:45:06 AM Oh I am so sorry! I saw a case like this on Mystery Diagnosis a long time ago. I just remember they ended up at one of the major Children's hospitals, perhaps in Boston. I know there is a name for this and it is rare. Have your doctor inquire at some of children's hospitals. There was a treatment and if I remember it is life long as a vital chemical may be missing. I will pray for you! Annie
