Posted - Mar 19 2010 : 09:37:20 AM 450 pages of goooood book. I started it 2 days ago and finishhed it today around noon. Still in my pjs. I couldn't put it down It is about the Civil Rights movement, Jackson, Mississippi, 1962 and a young woman who convinces the maids in town to tell their sstories about being the help. Eye opening and although it is fiction so much rings true. This is one terrific read and I understand it has already been optioned for a movie. Michele

Posted - Aug 02 2010 : 07:10:07 AM Very good read. I liked the short chapters too, but once I really got into it I could hardly put it down. The librarian told me the wait list for it right now is at 152!

Posted - May 13 2010 : 08:52:58 AM My book club is discussing The Help tomorrow night, and it's a first because we rarely choose any title still in hardcover (hard to get at the library and more expensive to buy, but we heard so many great things about the book we decided to read it this month. I read it AND listened to it on CD, as some of you have, and the characters really come alive in the readings. The dialect is easier to read in this novel than in most set in the South (us Northerners always have a problem with that!), and I liked the way the characters (black and white) come to the realization that racism existed in everyone's minds (maid and mistress alike). I do hope they make a movie, but something along the lines of The Secret Life of Bees, with character actors and actresses and not Julia Roberts! Dianne

Posted - May 10 2010 : 9:39:35 PM I LOVED this book-couldn't put it down, which is rare. I recommended it to my bookclub, but by the time we got it on our list there were around 500 hold on it at the library, so we're going to have to wait.

Posted - Apr 30 2010 : 12:09:44 AM I loved this book! I was hesitant to start it because I had read that the accents throughout the book were very distracting. But, even being Southern, I was not put-off by the accents (which I didn't find offensive). I couldn't put it down, and I highly recommend it.

Posted - Mar 19 2010 : 11:38:06 AM Didn't you just love it?! I listened to it on my ipod. Each part was read by a different woman. I was sad when it was over. Hope they do make a movie of it.
