I have been on the hunt for a bed jacket, they just seem to be the perfect thing to wear whilst reading in bed at night. So far no luck. Perhaps one of you ladies might have a pattern for one I can make?

I have one that my mother crocheted for me. It looks like a short shawl with ribbon ties. Frankly though, what I often wear is a shrug made of a lightweight stretchy knit that ties in the front. There are tons of patterns out there for shrugs, knitted, crocheted and sewn. It would be cool to know what you ended up with.

Thanks Margaret, for this memory, my grandmother always wore one. Hers looked similiar to the one that hosanna has in her etsy shop. She had several colors, my cousin who is older than I was got all of them when my grandmother passed. thanks for the memories. Good luck on finding a pattern or one that you can make. How about your favorite loose blouse patter and cut it off at the waist?
I loved to use one when I was nursing the babies. I had a yellow tricot one with white lace. It was light-weight, but keep the chill off.
I would like to have a flannel one for reading in bed now.

I love my fleece bed jacket. It's from LL Bean about 5 years ago. I think they have some in their catalog now. I also use an ivory colored fleece poncho/shaw/wrap that is intended to be worn as clothing. It has worked great for reading in bed and then slips off easily. Both the bed jacket and wrap wash really well. I bought the wrap in the end of the season sale a couple of years ago in a large department store in the accessory area where they sell scarves/gloves/wraps/hats. |

You could also check the Vermont Country Store website - they have all kinds of nostalgic things like that. They are kinda pricey, but if all else fails.....

I'd look at Butterick, I thought they had one. Otherwise, go to looking at blazers, coats, or other sportswear patterns. I'll bet there is something that is easily adaptable. Or, go to Goodwill and find a robe to cut off! |

Use a loose fitting robe pattern and cut it waist length. I've seen vintage patterns on e-bay.

I've been making Elizabeth Lee Design's ones. She though I don't think is any longer in business due to her husband's death, and having 8 children to raise. But, you can often find her patterns on Nursing Mom's Sewing Lists, as well as etsy and ebay etc. The bed jacket is in with patterns for slips and a simple nursing dress.
