A while back, I found this dress that I loved at the thrift store. Only problem was, it didn't exactly fit my style...spaghetti strap, and a good six inches shorter than I'm comfortable with. I had ideas for altering it for me, and just now got around to it today.

Before:

After:

I don't like the shirt thing that I put on top so I'm trying to find something I like better. This was just a really old denim shirt of mine that had stains on the lower part, so I cut it off short, hemmed it, and added a little red lace. I don't really like it though...since it was a regular shirt it doesn't hang quite like I want. I was trying to find some sort of bolero pattern online but didn't have much luck. I'm knitting one now that might match ok. I have a couple sleeveless dresses that I want to wear a bolero with.

Oh, and I also tacked up the straps a couple inches...it was waaaay low for me! :)

With the bottom of the dress I just added 6 or 7 inches of light-weight denim. I wanted the fullness of the dress to continue, but didn't want gathers, so I added pleats. I do really like how that part turned out. I got fullness with the lines of the dress being smooth. I hemmed it with a fancy stitch that looks scalloped, but you can't really see it unless you're on the ground looking for it! I did it with red thread, but you still can't see it! Darn!

Just wanted to let everyone know I still love wearing this and I end up wearing it pretty often...like a couple times a week! Since it's cotton it stretched a bit, but when I washed it, I threw it in the dryer and it's just like new. I am having a hard time with the pesky ends...I finally stuck them down with clear nail polish! I hate when my ends stick out!

I already made one for my boyfriend's mom...she had a fit when she saw mine! I'm giving it to her tonight (it's a surprise)...hope she likes hers! I also bought the yarn/thread for a pink one, and I have some black to get started on that one too. They're so quick and easy to make!

I'd make one for my fella...but I don't think he'd appreciate it. :( Haha...not something he'd want to wear to work, I guess! ;)

Thanks so much everyone! I wore it a couple times...once for my birthday party and once when I went to Pigeon Forge for our girls' retreat thing last week. This is me with my grandmother

I do like the bolero and I may make another one in black. It really opens up a new look for me...a cami or tank with the bolero on top is a cute look I might try out more often!

Thanks, y'all! I can't decide what I want to do for the top. The bolero/shrug I was knitting turned out very pretty...as a table runner, maybe! The lace didn't stretch enough. I started making it again, but I'm not sure if I'm going to keep going on it or not. I'd like to sew a denim bolero just for this dress...but I'd rather have something I can wear with more than just this! I found a pattern for a crocheted bolero that I might try...I think I have some off-white yarn for it, and I have a couple dresses I could wear it with. I don't know...we'll see!
