Posted - May 09 2012 : 05:03:24 AM Try to find multi-sized patterns. You can use the smaller size in certain areas, and the larger size where you need it.
On regular one size patterns, trace to freezer paper and increase where you need it. Make a practice garment using very cheap material to see if it lays correctly---then adjust from there. Of course, it is easier to adjust sleeves, waistline, bust, length, etc. than the entire pattern.
I use freezer paper to trace all my patterns. I write instructions on the dull side. I can iron the shiny side to my fabric---it sticks without pins. When you cut the pieces out, just peel the freezer paper off. You can reuse the pattern many times this way. I use it to trace different sizes of multi-sized patterns without cutting the original pattern. It is easier to make pattern alterations on freezer paper, then you have the original pattern intact if you need to do it over. Gail Lewis Clothier/Seamstress Ozark Folk Center
