Posted - May 17 2007 : 06:29:59 AM For anyone who sews purses or bags: Do you have a favorite pattern(s) or do you wing it? I love the look of homemade bags, and have made a couple but I have found the perfect pattern that speaks to me yet! Would love to hear suggestions!

Posted - May 18 2007 : 12:51:35 PM I wing it. Most of the bags I make are just squares of diffrent dimentions. Cut the lining and interfacing the same size. Throw that puppy together. Then sometimes I get fancy and make it tapered or something else. I buy a heavy interfacing for the bags but it also works great to cut out patterns that I use a lot. Lasts forever.

Posted - May 18 2007 : 05:58:39 AM I love to make handbags. I use several books for patterns. My favorite one is ffrom a past issue of Quilts and More. I have not had such good luck with patterns through the fabric stores as you can't really tell the size. Something seems small on the pattern, and it turns into a giant bag. LOL!! Sometimes I just cut shapes, simple and make a flat bottomed tote with handles and vary pockets and interlinings. Find a style you love, search for a similar pattern or be bold and cut your own. Good luck, Bonnie. You get great saitsfaction from making bags and totes with very little time and money into it.

PS- Today I'm dying some painter's canvas chocolate brown. It's planned for a summer tote with a lining of eggplant colored fabric that has mommas and women dancing all over it. I can't wait to see how it turns out! |

Posted - May 17 2007 : 08:31:07 AM a lady in my area is making a killing selling custom handbags. She has people host home parties. She brings all of her fabric samples and wide selection of trims and embellishments and everyone custom designs the bag they want. She sews it up and delivers all the bags to the hostess in about three weeks. Her web site is annabellehandbags.com.

Posted - May 17 2007 : 07:52:27 AM I love Amy Butler bag/purse patterns. I have made a couple different ones and love them all. I have also made a small purse using my own pattern that I really like. It's kind of like her diaper bag but a small shoulder purse size. |
