Posted - Jul 17 2008 : 07:37:34 AM Well, now that I think more on this after hearing about the machine features, I don't need the fancy stitches as I have those on my current machine. I need a good straight stitcher possibly with a zig zag if it's on a nice sturdy model...I have been pining after a 15-91 Singer and I'm going to keep looking on Craigslist as you mentioned. I've given up on Ebay...they are going for too much on there and are too much to ship. Think I'll stick local if possible and stick with my cheap plan. Thanks for all of the info on the machine.

Posted - Jul 17 2008 : 07:25:27 AM I know that right now there are a few on auction on e-bay. Bonne is right too. Keep an eye on craigslist daily for some really good deals!

Posted - Jul 16 2008 : 8:00:24 PM If you can find a 500 you won't even need all the cams; they are built in and the machine can do all the fancy stitches plus you can do combinations.

Posted - Jul 16 2008 : 4:57:40 PM This particular model has cams that you insert to make different stitches. If you surf Ebay you can see several for sale and get an idea by looking at the pictures. I've got a 503 Special and it's very similar~uses the cams too. Get on CraigsList for your area and enter in "sewing machine" and just keep an eye on it daily. It's amazing what you might find locally. Tammy was VERY lucky to get this model~it's very sought after and a fantastic machine.

Posted - Jul 16 2008 : 2:42:39 PM Bonne, can you elaborate on what kind of Singer this is since you seem to be in the know? I've been looking for one and the different models get me confused. I thought most of these "old gals" were only straight-stitchers but it sounds like this one is more.

Posted - Jul 16 2008 : 2:16:03 PM Start taking apart the top (screws)~you should be able to gain access through the top to oil it up. Get out the manual and it will show you the different moving parts to oil, as I imagine it's been years since it's last cleaning/oiling. This machine is AA++++ superb for stitching just about anything with the proper needle...also, invest in a walking foot too.(look for a "slant foot" model~have 'em on Ebay) It will be your new best friend for life! I share your thrill!!! May you two never part.

Posted - Jul 16 2008 : 09:12:03 AM Well, I plugged her in and she worked great! I played with all the attachments and did so many different stitches! She has a place in my living room right now, until I can get the third room done in the basement. She'll move down there where I can sew in peace then. :)

Posted - Jul 15 2008 : 3:26:29 PM Congratulations! You got one of the last of the great Singers. Keep it oiled and it will last another 40 or 50 years. You're lucky to get the attachments and manual and other goodies, too.
