Posted - Mar 05 2009 : 12:58:50 PM I made 2 quilts that way years ago and the people I made them for--I saw for the first time in 10 years made a point of telling me they still had the quilts and loved them. It is a very forgiving way of quilting and I enjoyed it. I will probably do one that way again when i get back into quilting! :) janiee farmgirl #390 |

Posted - Mar 05 2009 : 08:22:02 AM Oh, thank you Kay, that website put it all together for me. Now I can see how I could do this with a few tweaks to suit my style. Much appreciated.

Posted - Mar 03 2009 : 3:03:10 PM I think this is an interesting concept. Part of the reason I've never quilted anything big is I don't have the room and can't afford to have it done professionally. Here's a tutorial that I found online. Looks pretty simple. I have to make a couple of baby quilts and am going to give it a try.

Posted - Mar 02 2009 : 07:59:17 AM There's a woman who puts out books on this. It's called Lapquilting With Georgia Bonesteel. You can find them on Amazon.com makes it look quite easy. Haven't had the chance to try it myself yet.

Posted - Mar 02 2009 : 07:30:48 AM I am back, I can only think of one thing at a time! So if I am using strips and I need batting and backing all in one, how do I go about that?

Posted - Mar 02 2009 : 07:29:13 AM So I just made my second quilt, the last was just made into a duvet(double bed) and it was nearly impossible to work with in my large house with small rooms. I want to make another quilt and like the idea that I could quilt the squares one at a time. So I am guessing the only way you can put these blocks together is with another strip of fabric between each block?....and please everyone I would love to see pics of your work. Gives an isolated farmgirl ideas..

Posted - Feb 27 2009 : 2:00:33 PM Shelia, What you are talking about is kind of like lap quilting, where you quilt each block and then sew them all together together! It's a lot easier to manage especially if you have a small space! Happy quilting!!

Posted - Feb 27 2009 : 1:07:01 PM Sheila, I JUST started my first quilt this way. I thought it would be easier in my little space, to do it. I sure hope it goes okay. I have never done it before. I picked a small quilt:bassinet size. I would love to keep up on how you are making out with it. Maybe it would give me some encouragement to know I am headed in the right direction.:D hugs
