I am excited to begin working on my merit badges and sharing my experiences with everyone! After much debating I was finally able to pick the top 4 badges I plan to accomplish first!
I chose….

1.Pampered Pets (Outpost)
-It’s important to me that my pets are healthy and will live a long happy life. Knowing what is best for them will allow me to enhance their life.

2. Bread Making (Farm Kitchen)
-I have always enjoyed cooking and now look forward to a better way of cooking.

3. Embroidery (Stitching and Crafting)
- Would love to make something special for my baby boy just like my Grandma Butters made for me.

4. Water Conservation (Cleaning Up)
- I love the idea of helping save the planet as well as help me save money on my bill.

With that in mind, what merit badges do you fellow farmgirls plan on accomplishing first? Or working towards right now? Any of them hold a special meaning that drives you to accomplish one over another?

Much luck and enjoyment in your merit badge experiences!

No, I haven't Krista. I'm working hard on my spinning right now. Macrame is something for the future. I bought the yarn to do it years ago and it popped into my mind reading the posts. I'm sure you're right and there would be something out there. Thanks.

Awesome Shennandoah! I hope you enjoy it. I look forward to hearing what you think.

Jill, I personally haven't seen a pattern like that, but I would guess there would be some on Pinterest. Have you checked on that?

I also like the idea of starting with a kid's kit, Krista. I did macrame back in grade 8, but not since. I have a couple of those Japanese glass floats that I would like to create a macrame hanger for. They are quite heavy so I want the hanger to be quite strong. Have you ever seen a pattern for something like that anywhere?

Thanks Krista! I didn't even think of starting with a kids kit but that's a great idea - plus keychains. I would like to do the plant holders for my nieces for Christmas - it's their style. The American Flag would be good as well for our family. Lots of military. I'll start with the kids kit and see where I go from there!

Shennandoah, I found a beginner Macrame kit for kids from Walmart. The instructions were pretty simple and it showed you how to work each knot. It's perfect for beginners. Because it was a kids kit, I think it made it more fun and more appealing. The key chains are fun! Here is the link to the kit I bought https://www.walmart.com/ip/Hello-Hobby-Create-Your-Own-Macrame-Craft-Kit-for-Kids/2852969031?classType=VARIANT&from=%2Fsearch&sid=9c49d88b-69e0-49b0-888b-a939a28d7267 If I got stuck, then I would ask my dad for help because he knows how to do macrame. For my intermediate I found a free pattern on Pinterest that I really liked and then purchased my favorite color cord to make it. My expert badge is another kit. I still haven't started it. But I agree with you that there aren't very many projects that jump out to me. I am not a big fan of the macrame hanging plant holders, but there seems to be so many of those. So when I saw this kit was an American Flag wall hanging it really stood out to me.

Hey y'all. Sorry I've been off the radar for awhile. My work and home life blew up unexpectedly over the holidays. Been dealing with one crisis after another and struggling. Miss the sisterhood and trying to get back into the swing of things. Going to submit a few badges today and reviewing the badges and my progress on others to see what I need to tackle next.

Krista, I've been meaning to ask you how you went about learning macrame? I hadn't seen a source or projects that really speak to me.

Submitting my expert level Heirlooms forever and Living Zero badges. Working on so many more, including the entrepreneur badge and several in the garden gate and stitching categories. I have a background in horticulture, but went back to serving as a fractional CMO after my divorce. Took on a full time job with a client and have determined it's not the right path for me. So I am launching a garden center and nursery that caters to homesteaders, beekeepers and what I call "down to earth, digging in the dirt folks." I've ben teaching gardening workshops at a local bee supply company and have formed a strategic partnership with them. I am designing their landscape, starting with a hexagon shaped pollinator garden at the entrance. Still working full time so it's been slow going but lots of interest and found a great community of beekeepers and homesteaders. This will help me earn the expert level permaculture badge and I'll be able to do the expert level beekeeping badge in July after I help my bee guy harvest honey. So lots more exciting stuff to come.

Wishing everyone the best and look forward to having fun chats about merit badges and the farm girl life!

Sounds like you have been super busy, Rea! The Grange will certainly benefit from all that you are doing. Keep up the great work.

I have been working on my Community Service badge. I have been volunteering at the local Grange Hall.
This hall neede just a bit of beuatification.
From painting, cleaning the kitchen, trimming trees, cleaning flower beds and refreshing the bark aroung the entire grounds. It has been a challenge but all the hard work is worth it.

Jill, around 14 inches by 32 inches.

Thanks Heather and Nancy.

Heather, I need to get some books for the badges too. Good luck with your second round of seeds.

Can't wait to see it, Krista!

I have some books from the lending library I'm reading and I'm starting some seeds for the garden - for the second time. The first try didn't go very well.

How are your badges coming along? I just ordered the supplies I need to make my expert level macrame badge. I am getting so excited to get started. I am hoping to have it finished before July since it will be an American flag.

Nancy, those sound great! I can't wait until spring arrives and I can get some more outdoor time. I want to do some garden badges this year.

I agree Marie! We need more hours in the day.

Hi, All! I am making a list of badges to work on. I want to do some of the ones that get me outdoors more. I would like to finish the Bird badge, the Tree badge, and work on the Civic Heritage badge. I am continuing to work on my UFOs. . .there seem to be a never-ending supply of those! I want to keep learning and doing!
