Posted - Aug 11 2008 : 8:25:11 PM My Mother-in-law gifted me her nutrimill a month ago and let me tell you I was so happy! I was in the market for a grain grinder, but I was holding off. Then, *poof* it's like one fell out of the sky, just for me. Such a huge blessing. I used it today for the first time. I ground up popcorn for cornbread. YUMMY! It made a world of difference.
Any others out there who grind their own grain? what's the best recource for purchasing? What grain for what types of bread. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

Posted - Aug 12 2008 : 3:10:35 PM I grind my own wheat too........There is nothing better than fresh ground cornbread cooked in a cast iron skillet! I have "The Laurel's Kitchen Bread Book" and this really helped me understand the whole process of working with whole grains and getting them to rise correctly. I use mainly Hard Red Spring wheat as my main bread flour and Soft White Wheat for pastries like cookies and such. There are so many great grains out there to try, one of my favorites is Kamut. Have fun and try different things. Happy Grinding to you.

Posted - Aug 11 2008 : 8:34:56 PM Theresa, Congradulations!!! It's amazing how our desires come to us. Great Blessing :)
I've been grinded grains for over 25 years. Boy, I guess I'm getting old.
We like hard white or golden wheat for w/w bread that we make weekly, soft white wheat for cookies, quick bread, pancakes/waffles, etc. Love to grind brown rice, wheat, corn, soy beans, buckwheat, etc & add ground flax (not in mill) for mixed grain pancakes...so yummy.
I grind equal parts of wheat & corn or popcorn for cornbread. Let me know if you want the recipe.
Grinding beans; pinto, white, soy, etc. can be added to recipes for extra protein. Rita Bingham has a great book on using beans.
Welcome to the whole foods world!!!
