Posted - Jul 09 2012 : 7:47:36 PM My mom taught me ALL about pressure cookers and how to use them, both for cooking and for canning. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM!!!!
I have Prestos and Mirros. I have a "canner" and since it is huge that is all I use it for. I have about 3 smaller ones that I use for cooking. I have never had an electric one so have no experience there. I would NOT be without a pressure cooker! CJ

Posted - Jul 09 2012 : 12:40:05 PM Mine has a few different settings- low, high, browning, saute, and simmer. and when the time you set it for is up, it automatically goes to 'keep warm' until you turn it off.
I have a few crock pots, so I really only use it as a pressure cooker, though :)

Posted - Jul 09 2012 : 06:28:27 AM I have a mirro and presto pressure canner that I use for canning. Have never used them for cooking. I was looking at an electric pressure cooker that could be a slow cooker as well. It also has a browning feature so it was one pot cooking. I have read some articles and seen a few cooking shows where they used the pressure cookers and I would love to be able to use more bean and brown rice with the less cooking time.

Posted - Jul 08 2012 : 2:32:15 PM I have both a *normal* and an electric pressure cooker. I use the electric a LOT for my home-made formula for my baby. We did buy a stainless steel pot for it, though- the one it came with was hazardous when the coating became compromised! I have this one: http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-CPC-600-1000-Watt-Electric-Stainless/dp/B000MPA044/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1341783055&sr=8-1&keywords=cuisinart+pressure+cooker
It was a wedding gift. We then bought this pot for it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005YZYYE4/ref=oh_details_o00_s01_i00

Posted - Jul 08 2012 : 09:51:36 AM I have 2 pressure cookers and 2 pressure canners. Presto's and Mirro's. I love them and I will say I have never used an electric one either. Seems to me they would have more thngs to go wrong with them and thus not last as long.

Posted - Jul 07 2012 : 4:36:35 PM I have 3 Presto's, and use them all for cooking and canning, as Kathy said replace the seal when needed, also the guage as needed, never had an electric one, so I can't advise you there...

Posted - Jul 07 2012 : 3:17:03 PM I have had a stainless steel Presto Pressure cooker for 30 years and it's great. Have to replace the rubber seal every 10 years or so but other than that no issues at all. I use it at least 3 times a week and used it to make baby food when my kids were babies. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Kathy |
