Posted - Nov 18 2013 : 6:46:31 PM So, DH and I have been thinking we'd like a juicer for a while now. We have been looking and pricing, and goodness, they are pricey! A friend told me about an online local facebook tag sale group, and I found a like-new $100 juicer for half price. Picked it up last night. Love it. Made tangerine-carrot-kale last night. It was good and tasted a lot better than I expected, actually quite yummy! For breakfast, I made myself tangerine-apple-kale. Good again. I got the same juicer my dad and brother have (and paid much more for). Neither one care for theirs because they think it's hard to clean. I found it not that big a deal. My meat grinder is hard to clean! Anyway, think I got a bargain and will get lost of use. So...do you have/use a juicer, and do you have any recipes/juice combos you can share?

Posted - Jun 28 2014 : 7:39:05 PM Our son got us a juicer and it went back to the store, next day. I love my nutri bullet so much more. Alot more pulp but you can even add the grape stems to it for great health benefits. And Chatty Wren is right... so much easier to clean.

Posted - Jun 11 2014 : 05:45:34 AM This morning, I had a fab five: kale, orange, carrot, romaine, and watermelon. It was kinda brownish, but tasted mighty good!
What have you had lately in your juicer?
I also love to feed what pulp I don't use if I make a soup/stew to the chickens and bunny. Just be sure not to give them any apple seeds or citrus.

Posted - Jan 12 2014 : 10:48:01 AM I've had a juicer and found it time consuming to clean. I now use a magic bullet which isn't really a juicer because it doesn't remove the pulp but pulp is good for you (more fiber). It grinds really well, even nuts and it's a cinch to clean. Easy to make breakfast in the morning. Try beet, carrot, apple, kale and iced green tea.

Posted - Jan 07 2014 : 2:15:46 PM Costco was taste-testing organic carrot juice samples the other day. It was gross. But fresh carrots in my juicer are delicious! And apple juice is tastier too. I saw on a video that juice loses its vitamins within ten minutes of juicing. Not sure if that is true, but fresh tastes so much better.

Posted - Nov 21 2013 : 1:01:35 PM Yes - fresh ginger root. Silly me - I peel it first, just out of habit, because the skin looks like bark to me. I put an inch or so of root in, but I really like the taste to be strong, so you might want to start with a little less.
One caution with using beets: either brush your teeth or at least rinse your mouth with water after drinking that juice. Beets stain the heck out of your teeth!!

Posted - Nov 21 2013 : 12:54:13 PM Mine is a Jack LaLanne. It did not come with the recipe book. I will have to try beets in it, since everyone here sounds like that is a favorite. :0)
I love it. I am thrilled I got such a bargain, too.
Will love any recipes you can post. With ginger, are you using fresh?

Posted - Nov 20 2013 : 4:58:06 PM I caught a Jack LaLanne on sale at Kroger a couple of years ago and love it. One of my favorites is beet juice with some carrots.

Posted - Nov 20 2013 : 05:24:40 AM We use a Jack LaLanne. My favorite juices are carrot-apple-orange-ginger, carrot-pineapple-ginger, and apple-celery-romaine. Apple-red bell pepper-celery is also good.
We have a VitaMix which I use for smoothies. Don't care for their "total juice" at all. But that blender will crush ice like it's nothing, and really does make the best smoothies EVER!

Posted - Nov 20 2013 : 03:03:00 AM I used to use a juicer until I got a Vitamiz blender and do smoothies.
My favorite juice was carrot, apple, a little celery (it can be a very overpowering flavor) and parsley. The color is repulsive, but it tastes great.
For interest, a tiny bit of cayenne pepper or ginger root adds zip.
One recipe I tried had you run a clove of garlic through with the veggies and boy did that wake me up! No chance of being attacked by a vampire that day :) I thoroughly enjoy garlic, but that raw, biting flavor was too much for me.
One hint I learned early on that I'll pass on: write down what you're trying as you put it through the juicer so if it is good you'll know exactly what you used. It is really easy to wildly experiment and then forget what you put in that "good one".
Enjoy! |

Posted - Nov 19 2013 : 6:21:49 PM I don't juice now but have in the past (and I really mean to start again soon). I have a vitamixer and also a champion juicer. I loved putting beet juice in most of my juices - it's my favorite. Have fun trying new combinations and see what you like.
