Posted - Sep 27 2014 : 7:23:41 PM Advice please! Tomorrow we have a pot luck and I am taking a Mac and Cheese dish. My problem is that I have to be there 2 hours early for set up, without access to an oven there. I plan on baking it at home, in my oven in the pot that fits in my crock pot, then when I get there, setting the crock pot on low. I know that would keep it warm but would a low setting cook it to a baked-on, dried-out mess? Would you under-cook it at home?

Posted - Sep 29 2014 : 11:27:32 AM My plan changed and evolved but it took a comment by my usually non-cooking DH to get me over the panic. Because Mac and Cheese is basically already cooked and would really only need to be reheated, if you can live without the golden crispy top, he suggested I just take it cold and turn the crock pot to low. That calmed me down and seemed like a plan. When I got there, I got it plugged in with a power strip and got busy with other things. I stopped by about an hour later to find the power strip was no longer working and my mac was just about as cold as it had been when I plugged it. So I went to plan B, turned it to high and prayed for success. It worked! I was lucky enough to get a few chances to give it a stir, golden crust would have been obliterated then anyway. When it was time to eat it had warmed and I was so relieved.

Posted - Sep 29 2014 : 08:48:32 AM How about barely cooking the macaroni when you add it to the crock pot?
