Posted - Oct 22 2014 : 05:18:21 AM I'm looking for recipes on cooking tongue? Remembering how my Grandma did it is only a fog now so hoping that someone will be able to help! I've never done it before but imagine a slow, long simmer???????
It's a surprise for a neighbor that will be thrilled for a tongue, English hot mustard on homemade brown bread sandwich! He's mouth waters every time he tells me about it! LOL Thanks Judy

Posted - Oct 29 2014 : 1:46:33 PM In Germany we have 'Zunge Wurst' Tongue lunch meat... and I grew up on it and still to this day eat myself into a stupor every time I am back in Germany... in fact I'll be going back next April... oh I can hardly wait and you can bet, I'll be eating my share... that being said, my hubby has tried it and won't go near it again... silly boy!

Posted - Oct 27 2014 : 7:31:58 PM I have had it cooked in a pressure cooker like a roast with lots of onion and black peppercorns. It was real good!

Posted - Oct 27 2014 : 12:48:30 PM When I was growing-up, (and it was on a farm), my Mama always said:"how can you say you don't like something you've never tried", so my siblings and I always would agree to tasting it, and 99% of the time, we ate all of it, raised my kids the same way, and guess what, they too ate 99% of what I cooked too...

Posted - Oct 27 2014 : 11:23:05 AM I don't do pigs feet either LOL!!! There's got to be a limit to what new things try :) My uncle ate a goats eye once - don't think I could do that either. My aunt grabbed her stomach and said she'd be sick. They thought she was pregnant so she didn't have to try it. People sure do eat some weird things!!!

Posted - Oct 25 2014 : 5:57:24 PM Heather, You make me giggle lady! LOL Yep, born & raised a farm girl too & yep know what that tongue has been up to but like my Granny would say folks have to try new things. One of our daughters has spent years living in England & says tongue sandwiches are a big thing over there! It's kind of like eating pigs feet & we all know where they have been. LOL Smiles Judy

Posted - Oct 24 2014 : 6:16:13 PM I hope you enjoy your tongue, I know many people do. I can't even get up the gumption to try it. I've spent my entire life on a dairy farm and I know what those tongues do :) Not appetizing to think about.

Posted - Oct 23 2014 : 4:11:40 PM Thanks Tina! That's sounds good with salsa! Roger, the guy that's been dreaming of this, said his Granny simmer slow then sliced thin then into a gravy with lots of onions. He said a plate of mashed potatoes won't hurt beside it. LOL Judy
