I found a marble pastry board outside in a junk pile. Its all intact and no chips or cracks that I can see. Is it possible to disinfect it and clean the moss off it to use in my kitchen? Thanks!

I hope you will be able to use it for pastry. Just a great find!

We have marble countertops in our bathroom and the stone worker we bought it from tells us that marble does not do well with food. It is more porous and acids, etc. are not good for it. I'll bet, though, as a pastry board it would be fine. Granite was recommended for surfaces that would come into contact with food. For sure I'd check and see if it can be cleaned adequately.

I just remembered I have a friend who has marble on her countertop. Let me get back with you after checking with her. I've used it many times.

I can't imagine why not. I'd wash it with a washcloth dipped in hot sudsy water. I think marble may be porous so I wouldn't immerse it. Then I might use clorox wipes on it. Before doing either I would call one of your local stores that carry's granite and marble and ask them how to proceed. If you don't have anyone locally I'd be happy to check here. I was in or near Polson last year when a friend and I were traveling out west. What a beautiful place.
