We finally did it! We have added more to our little farm! My kids convinced my husband that we needed chickens. We picked out our little chicks over the weekend and they are doing great so far. All the kids and dogs love sitting next to their box watching them. They have also been named! With hopes they are not roosters. Meet Ethel, Rita, Lucy, Charlotte, and Roseabell!

Oh how cute are they. Your kiddos will love watching them grow Krista. I love going to the tractor store every year just to see the baby chicks:-)

We decided to go with a small flock. We are not huge egg eaters, but having a small start sounded better for us as beginners. They are still doing great and seem to have grown already!

Love chickens!! We can't have them where we live. Some people do though because we can hear them. But some of our neighbors are not very nice and would tell code enforcement on us if we had them. So, we just feed all of the birds that came to our yard instead. When I went to visit my sister in Oregon we would harvest the 60 meat chickens that she had raised. . .such good flavor from homegrown food! She also had a flock of 50 egg layers. My Grandkids loved to get the eggs and feed them. My sis sold meat and eggs and always had roast chicken to eat along with the elk that she hunted on the property. She has since moved to Tennessee and is on a small property. I guess that our chicken and elk days are over. Such a learning experience for me - getting to help harvest both chickens and elk!

Nancy, I would love to do meat chickens in the future. I have also told my husband I would like to have a turkey. We shall see what the future brings.

Yesterday I decided to 3D print a chick perch for the new baby chicks. They were pretty excited about it. I may need to print another one so they can all fit.
