Hello everyone, I'm from central Ohio and my husband and I both live close to the farms we grew up on. Although we are not farming ourselves we do have 13 acres currently and I keep us as sustainably fed as possible with our garden and chickens! Of course we support our family and neighbors by buying all of our meat locally and storing it up for the year in our freezers and on our canning shelves. I graduated from Kenyon College with a major in American Rural Studies and was in the process of getting my masters in Rural Sociology when the children started coming along! We have a son (3 years) and a daughter (16 months) and another to join us in the late fall. Currently I'm working at developing my home-based sewing business making children's clothes as well as clothes and accessories for adults. I make most of my own clothes and our children's clothes. I'm excited to get to know other farmgirls through this site and hear about all of your experiences!

Hi Christine!

Do you have an Etsy shop? Lots of the other farmgirls have them and they seem to do rather well. Congrats on having such a wonderful (and growing!) family. I am so glad you found us. You sound like a true blue "Farmgirl at Heart" like the rest of us!

There are lots of fun swaps and things going on through out the forum. Lets see- we have Mail Art, several seasonal swaps, a scrapbooking swap, a yo-yo fabric swap, a print your own recipe book going… Feel free to jump right in! Oh I almost forgot to mention the Pinkeeper Contest that you can find more info on here:

You could even meet MaryJane!

And if you would like to meet up with other farmgirls- don't forget to look in to the Farmgirl chapters nearest you!

Welcome Christine! It sounds like you really have your hands full with the little ones. My youngest son is 3.5 years old & he really keeps me on my toes (my older two sons are 25 & 22 years old). Good luck with your home business. I don't know how to sew at all, but plenty of the ladies here do. It's great you support your local farming community! The small farms are very important to us all. I look forward to hearing more from you.

Hello Christine, Welcome, I too am new to this group. Babies, thirteen acres and chickens! I am pea green with envy! I have two grown daughters 27 and 29 and I ran a homebased business for 27 years. I quit working when our first daughter was born, made ruffled curtains for my house and the phone started ringing off the hook. In less than a year I bought myself an industrial sewing machine, added a 24x16 room on the back of our house, hired ladies to work at home , and for the next many years I made and designed top treatments, drapes, bedding, vanities and anything else that was for the home and made of fabric. I had orders backed up until I retired to the beach. Dress your children in the wonderful clothes you make and the business will find you. When you go tochildrens birthday parties, always take a handmade gift of clothing. The mommies will love it and word will spread. I now sew things for fun, aprons, pillowcases with trim or embroidery that I love to do. I could go on and on but I just want to say that its wonderful your generation has the love of family, farm and gardening that I thought was lost in this too fast world we all live in. I wish you much success. Tracy in North Carolina
