Farmgirls,

Do any of you make lampshades or wish you did? My dear Aunt Larri was an amazing artist and could do just about anything imaginable. She went through a lampshade making kick one year but lost interest after she had enough lampshades for every room in her house, and her friends' houses too. She'd start with a vintage frame, wrap the wire with silk ribbon, sew on a silk liner with silk thread, cover the liner with silk panels and lace, and then sew on trims, tassles, and fringe. She hand dyed everything beforehand (to coordinate with her decor) and the results were fabulous to say the least. Now here I am with a bunch of leftover beautiful lampshade frames and absolutely no desire to make lampshades...

I'm interested in selling them, but I know little of their value and I'm not ready to start the research, picture taking, image hosting, e-mailing etc. just yet. However, I would like to know if there's an interest on the forum. If there is, I'll post everything here when I'm ready. If not, I'll know to start elsewhere.

Thank you so much for reading this and letting me know!

Hugs and best wishes,

Sarah

Let me know what you decide to do. I would have interest in some. I have made a few lampshades. I recently thought about doing it again, but know nothing of value as far as selling/buying them. Let me know when you get some idea of what you would want.

Jessica, I've seen finished lampshades priced from $100-$450 (shade only) depending on size and intricacy. I think I would be selling the frames from $5-$30 each (plus shipping). I have them from very small to very large. I would also consider bartering, although I can't imagine what I actually need at this time...

Handmade lampshades go for $$$$! But if you are not interested in making them yourself, you could probably get an idea from ebay what they would sell for. There are a few ads for the supply companies in the back of Victorian decorating magazines too.

I had a vintage shade I loved that had been my Grams but it just started to disintegrate it was so old so I used the frame for a topiary! Now I still have that shape, it's just covered in Creeping Charlie!

i would be interested possibly purchasing. Used to teach how to make them an easier way than sewing them by hand.

I am a light, lamp and lampshade gal. Love to deck the house with mood and creativity using light. I am interested in what you may have. Looking forward to further developments!

I'm a bit preoccupied with an upcoming flea market booth and our new farmgrrrl chapter (very exciting), but the lampshades are next on my list! I'll post pictures for everyone to see as soon as I can.
