Hi everyone! How excited I am to have found this site! I'm not only a farm girl at heart, (and always have been), but I am also fortunate enough to actually LIVE on one! We live on my husbands family's 20+ acre ranch (former Dairy farm) where I raise Babydoll sheep, Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats and heritage breed chickens, ducks and turkeys, and recently added some Jacob lambs. There are other critters on the farm that are just pets, but I love them no less. My husband of 18yrs is not too thrilled with my "Hobby," but he's coming around! Also among the critters, there are three boys around here somewhere-- ages 17, 15 and 11. Thank God for the country! I can't imagine trying to raise boys anywhere else. Farm life certainly keeps them busy AND out of trouble! (well, MOST of the time! ) Looking forward to being a part of the Farmgirl group and can't wait to hear from you all! Thanks for such a great site. Tracy |

Hi Tracey!
Your farm sounds great! How much milk does a dwarf goat produce? They sound adorable!

Thanks for the welcome ladies! It's a pleasure to "meet" you all! For those who asked, I'm about an hour north from the state capital just outside a little town called Willows-- actually, part of an even smaller little town called "Bayliss." (or Glenn, depending on what your map says) As for the Dwarf goats, I'm not really sure how much milk they produce as I haven't actually milked any yet, though I hear they can produce a couple quarts(?) a day.
I work 3 days a week (Mon, Weds & Fri), so the job supports the "Hobby" and keeps me from the more intense farm things-- like milking 2x a day! At least for now. Soon though, I hope to make the farm pay so I can stay home and do more things around here, but until then, work I must. (Good thing I like my job! )
I look forward to chatting with you all in the other areas of the site, I'm sure I'll be posting A LOT on the critter page, as there is ALWAYS some story to tell! Again, thanks to you all for the warm greetings! My best to you all, and God Bless! -- Tracy
PS: love the little icons! |
