Annie S. Thank you for your input. I would love to put the dogs in the groung. There not mine. We saw them and they both have collers and tags onnn. But can't catch them. I love animals so much and it really is not me talking when i say that first line! But They attacked again befor i could even take the staples out from the first attack. We are looking for a great Pyrenees dog right now. So if any one know a breeder in Ca let me know.
Luzy, Yes i am close, i live in Lake County. About 1 hour away..

Guardian and herding dogs require a great deal of training and the training has to be continued over the course of their lives. If you do get a Great Pyrenees make sure that you are getting a dog from a working background with hip certifications. A good breeder will have more questions for you than you will for them. I guess my point is that getting a guardian dog is not necessarily an easy fix for your problem. Donkeys will fight dogs and other canine animals but are not a guarantee that your flock will be 100% safe. I once had a neighbor who had a donkey to protect his sheep and goats and he still had occasional losses to coyotes.
Stray dogs (even those with owners) are a big nuisance. We have had several damaging visits from a neighbor's dog ourselves (chickens, not sheep) and I understand your frustration. Some dogs just have a really high prey drive and unfortunately not everyone understands the responsibility of dog ownership. I myself have a dog with a very high prey drive and learned a hard lesson when she got out without my knowledge one day, but we do fine with supervision appropriate to her nature.
Do you have a barn or other shelter you might move the sheep into at night? Other than accidentally locking an opossum in with our ducks one night, keeping our birds in well reinforced buildings has at least prevented night time losses. I like my birds to free range because of the better egg quality so occasional day time losses are just a hard part of life I'm learning to accept. Most can be headed off if someone is home all the time.
