My name is Paulette, aka "pj". I have always considered myself a countrified city girl due to time spent on a dairy farm as one of the ten kids and tromping the North Woods of Minnesota with my grandpa.
According to our plans, my husband and (ani)'mules will move permanently to Quite A Bit of Heaven, a 35-acre hay meadow in southwestern Missouri in two years and 27 days. There is a Morton (metal) building plunked in the middle that is the house and an adorable blue-with-white-trim pole barn that a Mennonite crew raised for us a year ago April. The house and property has been ours for three years and are 600 miles door-to-door from where we live now. By fall, we might even have a real kitchen again -- we removed the old one a year & a half ago to install flooring over the concrete -- think indoor camping.
Finances and jobs keep us in the big city with all its noise and traffic for now, but we spend as much time as possible at QAB setting things up for us to move there. The stars, sunrises, and sunsets are absolutely astounding!!
I am a stitcher! It all began before my memory, sitting on my mom's lap at the sewing machine before two, knitting at seven, crocheting at ten, quilting at 14, tatting, braiding wool rugs, etc. Sewing machines, fabric and yarn seem to find their way to our house on their own. My passion is stitching, knitting, crocheting, and quilting warmth and comfort for kids in crisis in the form of hats, mittens, scarves, afghans, blankets, and quilts. Things seem to get repurposed at our house until there is nothing left.
I'm beginning to ramble...must be time to get my wiggles on toward bed. I am SO glad to be here!
As ever, in stitches (of one kind or another), pj
Anything that sits still too long at our house gets stitched! |

Wow PJ!
You sound like quite the Stitcher! I think you will fit right in with us! Many of us stitch, or as in my case- attempt to! Have you seen all the lovely conversations down in the "Stitching and Crafting Room" and of course MaryJane just published her second book the "Stitching Room". Speaking of MaryJane- How did you find the forum?
You sound really neat and I look forward to getting to know you more!

Hi, PJ - welcome! Your place sounds fantastic. My dh and I have been doing something similar - living/working in the city and spending the weekends/vacation(vacation???-what's that???) working on our old farmhouse. Post photos if you can. It's great to have you here.

Welcome PJ from another former Minnesotan. My DH and I lived in Prior Lake and Savage and before we got married I lived in New Hope, so we are VERY familiar with the Cities. Your place sound wonderful. DH and I did the same thing - bought land in the southern Black Hills 6 years ago to eventually build our retirement dream home. We finally moved into it last July (of course the hottest day 100+ of the summer) and have been working on it every since - putting in wild grasses and flowers instead of regular grass (no mowing any more), decorating, etc. And I now have a nice little craft room upstairs that is filled with all my sewing, knitting, rag rugs making, etc. And you have the same problem I do - fabric and yarn just follows me home for some reason and it just won't leave! My son still lives in Minneapolis. My husband has been up in Edina this past week to be with his ailing mother (won't last the week). There's still lots of his side of the family who are in the Twin Cities area. And man, when we go back to visit it's a ride on the wild side - the traffic is even worse than when we lived up there and we realize very soon that this was part of why we moved away. Now we have no noise - live 9 miles outside town on top of a ridge and only here birds, etc. Be sure to post some pic's of your new place when you get moved in and show us your little bit of heaven. Again, welcome - you're going to fit right in.
Peace and love. Annie |

Welcome PJ...from a born and raised Missourian. Your new place sounds like it will be worth the wait. I am amazed with all of your stitching skills. I hope someday, when the kiddos get older, to have time to do things like that again. You have found the best group of women you would ever want to meet. Good Luck!
