surprise surprise!!!
we are expecting a new addition to the family. I'M PREGNANT!!!
Surprise!!! Yes I know its taken me long enough to do this. I just got carried away with all the chat forums and couldnt help myself. Okay so a little about me, I am a mother of two wonderful princesses/daughters. My dream is to have a small lavendar farm of my own. The girly girls have decided we neeeeed a strawberry patch. Okay so here is the really hard thing for me to admitt, we are in a lot of debt(mainly credit cards). It really stresses me out and makes me want to cry. Any suggestions to help us out would be greatley appreciated. I have recentley started a part time job folding baby diapers to help us out financially and still have plenty of times with my girls. Thanks for all of your gals support and I appreciate everthing you do. Loves Teresa

P.S. Does anyone now how much it costs to start an etsy store.

Hello Teresa, welcome on board. I used to live in south of France where they do lots of lavandar, I know the varieties are different here nd there, but the smell will be forever linked to wondefull summers for me. I wish you luck with them. About the money issues, if you can go to your local library and look up the O (Oprah) Magazine they have, in each issue Suze Orman ( I think it is the correct name here ...) gives advices about how to pay Credit card fast and how to build a mony nest for greater projects. Her advices seems doable and very realistic. Hope that helps.

Welcome!!
I have two princesses too!! They always have their say in what we "must" have in our garden/orchard/berry patch! I do not know anything about etsy except how to buy on it which I do very well!! But there are a few here that sell so I am sure they would be happy to help!
In regards to credit card debt, I know to lower all your interest rates as much as you can (call them and insist on a lower rate), stop using them ( a big part!!!) pay the ones with the lowest balance first so you can get them paid quickly and make headway, pay as much as you can without having to go back into debt to survive the payment, and DO NOT get any cards with any interest rates above 12% ever (9% or lower is better!) and once you are done, only keep one or two basic cards so you hopfully will not get in debt again. IF you cant help but use them, get rid of them all! There is alot of good information out there about this and I am sure you can find more information online as well as at your local library! I do so hope you are able to get out from under that soon, I know it can be very stressful!!

I am dreaming of my one day farm too!! Yours sounds lovely and I can't wait till you and your precious DDs are able to have that fullfilled!! I wish you the very best and am glad you are here with the rest of us farmgirls at heart!!
See you 'round the farm!
Hugz!

HELLO! I'm glad you finally decided to "formally" introduce yourself! A lot of really sweet gals here and I KNOW they will help get you back on track. You are brave to admit that you got yourself in a bit of a pickle finacally, but I think we have all made some bad decisions at one time or another. Rest easy, you WILL work your way out of it!

We have a really great lavender farm here in Reno called Lavender Ridge. They also have a wonderful gift shop and sell every youcan think of lavender. The help all wear lavender colored t-shirts....too cute!

If you are ever in Reno, I'll take you there and show you around! Welcome! Cindy

Hi Teresa!

Boy do I know what you mean when talking about debt! I am currently digging myself out of a hole. It is scary and stressful, especially since I have a child now! The only thing that has worked for me so far is to really clamp down on any extra spending. I keep everything in Microsoft money since it will provide graphs and charts and money flow forecasts. Yes, I know I could do this all myself, but I was given the program and saves me tons of time! :) When you really are honest about where every penny goes- it can be a shocker! I realized that I was spending way too much money on the little things! Especially the Dollar Store. It might only be a dollar an item- but when you go every week and buy 30 items...yah... it adds up!

I know these ladies have always been so helpful and have had great suggestions. I know you already love the forum and it will be so much fun to keep getting to know you better!

Hugs!

Alee

Hey Teresa,
Welcome, welcome & welcome.....
We'll have to have lavender tea & lavender macaroons @ my house once I am setteled in.
As for the debt, we all have been there at some point & extent,,,,the tuff part is learning to not be dependent on credit cards & to be disaplined with ones spending. With 2 beautiful daughters it's hard not to want to buy them all kinds of wonderful stuff. But as you work through clearing up your dept, let your girls help. Encourage them to make handmade cards, sew doll clothes from repurposed fabric and even help out with the garden.
How fortunate they are to have a mom who is loving and hardworking.
You can do it! hang in there.

Welcome Teresa - Spending time with the girls while they are at home (as I am sure you know) is the most important thing. As long as your spending money wisely you should not feel overly guilty about the dept. It is hard to have it hanging around your neck but unfortunately it is hard not to in our country. As a single mom I robbed peter to pay paul for years and always had debt ( still do) dispite the fact I make all our food from scratch, shop with coupons, hardly ever eat out and only wear hand me down clothes. We don't have cable TV. I keep the house just above freezing in the winter. I just don't have enough to pay all the bills dispite my frugality. So don't feel bad just do the best you can do to cut costs!

HELLO! glad to have you with us... I love lavendar...I love the smell, the flavor of the Teas.. mmmmmm, so soothing. I used to have a patch right outside my kitchen and in the mornings it was great.. But it disappeared..I think DH and his trusty shovel un-earthed it once while he was "helping" "fluff" up my flower beds...Oh well, I get some more.

So welcome to "our" world.....Jump in to a swap here and there and enjoy yourself, I do and I don't let anything or anybody other me....

Howdy from Wyoming!

Regarding debt, try Family Financial Education Foundation (www.ffef.org) Making one payment and having the creditors stop calling you is worth the $20 service fee! We have cleared $11,000.00 business debt using them.

Regarding esty, it is free to set up the shop. It cost .20 to list item and then they charge you a percentage if you sell an item. There is a thread under Entrepreneurship about etsy shops. Check it out!

Let me know if you need help getting set up. I'd be happy to help.

Hi Teresa,
Glad you told us some things about yourself. I just read your thread about strawberry picking. I may not be able to make it to Green Bluffs, but I go to Carver Farms a lot throught the summer. We'll have to see if we can meet up.

As far as the debt goes - it is not easy, but you can free yourself from it with determination and making a plan. I would really suggest getting Dave Ramsey's book "Total Money Makeover" from the library. If you really like it you can buy one (for cash) down the road. He takes you through steps and he's been in bad debt in the past. You can do it - it will just take a little time.

Nice to meet you.

A good morning welcome to you Teresa! A lavendar farm - I think you'd have everyone here at your place one time or another when you get it up and running. Sounds like you're in good company here as far as the credit card situation - myself included. DH and I are doing our best to pay in cash or check and not use the cards. We want to get down to only one and cut the others up and not use them at all. There are so many resources for you to use. I've gone and gotten some books from the library on how we can live a more frugal lifestyle. And keeping track of every penny you spend will give you an idea of just where the money is going. Some items you need: gas, food, etc. but you'd be surprised about the little things: a pack of gum, coffee at those expense coffee shops, eating lunch out instead of bagging it, that tube of lipstick you thought you just had to have, etc. It all adds up and we've all been there. So take heart in the fact that we're all behind you 100% and are here for you.

Peace and love.
Annie

I second whoever recommended Dave Ramsey and his book. He makes alot of sense. Also listen to him on the radio if you can find him. Great Advice!

Good luck with the lavender farm idea.

Hey Teresa,

Welcome....I've seen a few of your posts..I've been around for about a month..this is a real nice group to be part of. My two favorite fragrances are Lavender and Rose....I have a half gallon jar full of organic lavender buds from a lady lavender farmer out in Montana.

Don't ever give up the dream! "When you Beleive it, you will see it!"

Debt can suck the life out of you...What you need to remember is that "they can't eat you for dinner"...LOL I've been there as many of the other farmgirls have also expressed.

This will pass...and you will be wiser for everything you have endured..

I DO Not use credit anymore. It was a vow I made once I got out of the difficult period. I had a string of creditors that my EX-husband failed to pay after me for some time and finally got it resolved.

Our society encourages debt at every turn you take. When you notice all the TV ads for the mortgage companies offering 1st, 2nd and 3rd mortgage consolidation loans you know spending is way out of hand!

Sherone offered you some great advice in contacting the credit counselor....they can relieve your anxiety....

Do you sew? What do you want to sell at Etsy?

Look forward to getting to know you more

Peace, Stephanie

Hiya Teresa, lots of smart advice here already. Just do what you can, day to day and you'll find a way. Baby steps are sometimes easier to see your way to the end result.

Chin up and keep smiling,
