For those of you who didn't know, the Mountain Farmgirls of Idaho City entered a float in our parade here. We took 1st prize in our category and had a ton of fun riding that thing around town. We threw candy at the kids and seed packets that we made and filled with wildflower seeds at the adults. Rose and Barbara took tons of pictures of our float and the parade and I think Rose will be posting them on here soon.
We borrowed a flat bed trailer from Rose's son and Barbara and her dh put chicken wire all around the bottom and we filled it with tissue flowers. The night before the parade, we realized we didn't have enough flowers to cover the chicken wire. Felicia (not my daughter) and her daughter, Pam, and Barbara worked til late that night and made enough to finish the job! Kudos to those gals for saving the float!
Sue's dh drove the tractor that he uses for maintenance at our school. He also held the step ladder for us to get up and down from the float. Chivalry is NOT dead. He did a great job driving us around. Nobody fell off! lol.
We hung our banner (that Candace painted) at the front. The other Lisa brought an old wood pitchfork as the queen's septre. The local nursery here (the owner, Judy, is an honorary member of our chapter) lent us trees and flowers to put on the float and most of the gals sat on hay bales that Terry and her beau brought for us. Except our farmgirl queen (Candace) who sat in a nice chair. And since I was elected princess, I stood next to our queen with an umbrella to keep us out of the sun. It was REALLY hot yesterday. We both wore flower tiaras that Rose had made.
We all wore our aprons. And our youngest member, Felicia (my daughter), sang the national anthem at the announcer's stand. She did a great job. I'm so proud of her.

| That sounds like a lot of fun...a true Americana type July 4th! The weather here was cool and cloudy, then rained later. I went to my sister's home and we did a killing in the bargain stores in her area. There were fireworks all around, and you could see them in any direction. All in all, a nice time! |

Hi Alee, we definately were the talk of the town. One of our Farmgirls, Barbra, did not ride on the float but she walked the whole route and took tons of pictures. While she was in with the crowds she heard wonderful comments and answered some questions. The people that knew about us already were just tickled to see our float and the women in particular loved the seed packets. Our former Judge and her husband were here and we gave her a brochure. They live in Boise now and she had only heard about us. I will post pictures tonight as I am actually at work now and posting this on my morning break time. We sure made history yesterday. I had one local woman stop by my house after the parade and I was outside watering plants, and she gave me a copy of a picture she took. I think we were the most photographed float! Look for my next post with pictures.
We are never alone in the forest of Sisters! We "Mountain Farmgirls" are outstanding in our field! |

How fun! Would have liked that kind of float in our parade here --- other than the military units, and 1ID band it was mostly vehicles.
Any KS farmgirls out there who are game for next year? ;)
