Good afternoon! I'm new to the site but farmgirls-?--been one since I moved from Houston,Texas to a remote, only accessible by cable-drawn ferry, section of land(360 acres) in the southern most parish,in Louisiana, in 1970. Was that a mouthful ,or what?
I was 12;I still live in Louisiana, slightly north of Gum Cove, in Calcasieu Parish- or "RITA Redone" . Since the late 70's the ferry has been done away with. When we moved in there were only 2 families south of the ferry-never did get to know them. Too much "farm stuff" goin on! My mom was the original "Farmgirl" in my life and she definitely passed it on to me! I married the love of my life at 16, and am happy to report 33 years, five kids and seven grandkids, later that I found the only farmboy in the world that was for me!! (Yes he worked on a ranch from 12 until 20.) Unlike me, he raised animals for show, etc. and did all the "farmy"stuff I loved and still do! I just watched my mom do all that-you know how teenagers are!
My life is so full and complex I hesitate- but here's a snapshot of now. I have homeschooled all 5 kids(23 yrs in all)- have only 2 teens left at home- one 13 & one 17. The grown ones 31,26 & 21 are happily raising their own broods all over the country. We live in the woods, I quilt, embroidery, lead a ladies prayer group for some of the finest ladies I have ever known, upkeep a family & friends website and love pictures, stories.
My daughter in law gave me the MJ book and I felt like Maryjane was an old friend. Bought several for my"farmgirl" friends too. Thats enough about me. Autumn P.S. This IS the middle of nowhere where I moved,Gum Cove, when I was 12. Ill post a pic of home now later.

Welcome to the forum Autumn. I love your name. I have 3 boys, but if I ever had a girl, I would of named her Autumn. No matter when she was born! Oh well, maybe I'll get a granddaughter some day with that name.
I think you'll feel right at home here. We're glad you joined up! By the way, do you use Avon's Skin-So-Soft bath oil for those pesky skeeters?

Thanks for a warm welcome! Looking forward to getting to know some of you girls. I was actually born in Utah- named for the beautiful autumn scenery there. Wish I could remember but alas we moved before I was 2. Actually the skeeters don't bother the locals as much as visitors- mostly cause we just work around them, like the heat or snow(what's that?) in some of your areas. Not sure how the Avon thing got started but I sometimes think it was a joke that a southerner played on a northerner to ATTRACT the skeeters! Thanks again for the welcome! Autumn

From one Louisiana belle to another...WELCOME!!! I love it that you found your way here and I'm so proud I could pronounce your parish- (that's a county to everyone else). You are most definitely a true blue, homegrown farmgirl! Looking forward to getting to know you better and who knows, I might even get to meet you when I travel down to your neck of the woods.
Blessings, Kim

Welcome Autumn, from western NY! You know, I emmigrated to this wonderful country 20 years ago but I tell you, I detest(I MEAN DETEST!) the skeeters up here! They know (underline know) I am not a native and seem to find my ankles particularly attractive! (You would think after 20 years I would get over it!) LOL! Anyway, glad to have you here! I have been thinking about starting a prayer group/bible study at work but have sort of stalled. Any suggestions? (Hey, you are in the forum now and we will pump you for any and all information!) God Bless!Angie.

Suggestions about starting a prayer group- hmmm....you'd laugh if you saw ours. I mean you've probably seen those cool groups of women who have everything together, right? Well that is NOT us- we are a group of women that God put together about 18 yrs ago as young mothers. Now we are old mothers, some of which ,STILL at 50, have 2 & 3 yr olds at home. (Our own-not grands!!)We have weathered so much life together that all we can do is keep propping each other up and praying for God to have mercy on us and laugh at ourselves. Our big rule is NO GOSSIP-nothing brought up for prayer is discussed outside the group-unless someone is in real danger. Also- we, all 20 or so ,attend different types of churches so NO CHURCH BASHING Finally scripture is the final word on any matter. I am NOT a leader except as God has moved- in other words I am NO Beth Moore- no big spiritual insights or teaching- I'm just a well weathered oldie willing to encourage young moms to be good moms and wives; like the Bible says. (I'm really more of a discussion manager than anything else) I wouldn't trade my association with these women for anything- so go ahead and find those kindred spirits and start praying together! I can't wait to hear about all the answers!!! Autumn

Welcome, Autumn! I am deep south, too, in North Florida which is sometimes called "Florida with a southern accent". I quilt, teach bible study, and loved to garden - see, you have found many kindred spirits here!
Also, our bible study group has been together for about 6 years now, but have worshipped together for 25 years. We are just finishing up Beth Moore's "Patriarchs". We have learned so much - I have really enjoyed it.
