Hi to everyone and thanks for all the great info and ideas you all have. I'm not sure I'm really a "farmgirl", but I definitely have a lot of the same interests as are addressed in these forums. I found you in a desperate search for ideas of how to use lots of zucchini and was mesmerized by all the great ideas you share.
About me. . .I'm married to a trout farmer and we have 3 kiddos, Madeline is 7, Jackson is 5, and Audrey will be 3 at the end of the month. We live in Ohio, although we've only been here for 3 years (we're originally from upstate NY). Our animals are two cats, one BIG yellow lab puppy, and 9 hens. This is my first year with a garden (finally the kids are old enough that they don't have to be held all the time, I can actually weed a bit!) and it's very exciting for me to see all the veggies growing so nicely. I do quite a bit of canning, so it's nice to do things from our own garden. I stay at home with the kids, but babysit a few days a week as well as sell personalized baby onesies to help with bills. I also love to sew and do what I can when I have or make time. I'm not a superb cook, but am trying to learn to feed my family with healthy meals (lots to learn!)

Hi Sheila and welcome! You certainly sound like a farmgirl at heart to me and I think you'll find you have lots in common with all the great gals here.
What do you like to sew? I sewed alot when my girls were little, then sewed professionally for awhile until I could hardly stand the sight of my sewing room. But I have gotten back in to it again lately...mostly due to the wonderful inspiration I get from the gals here.
Looking forward to getting to know you better,
Diane on Vancouver Island

It's nice to meet both of you ladies. I was raised on a farm all my growing up years and only lately been stuck in town. I do not like feeling like I live in a fish bowl and can hardly wait to get back in the country. I would rather live on a mountain than anywhere else.
God bless,
Pauline

Welcome aboard, Sheila. You've definetly found the right place for you. What sort of sewing do you enjoy doing? Show us a picture of some of the onesies you make. Do you sell them on-line? Your family sounds great - kids and dogs go hand in hand. Be sure to check out all the different forums to jump in and chat - there's so much to learn and I'm sure you have a lot to share as well.

Peace and love.

Thank you for all the messages! What a nice welcome! I'm taking a break from canning beets right now (actually they're in the canner for a little longer) and it's nice to feel a bit connected. To answer some of the questions, as far as sewing goes, right now I'm working on a couple of sunbonnets for a friend of mine whose ponytail keeps getting stuck in her regular sunhat, about 7 pr of shorts for my daughter who this year has to wear shorts under her skirts/dresses at school, backpacks for sleeping bags for a quilting group that makes sleeping bags for homeless folks,. . .kind of all practical stuff right now. I do like to make quilts when I find/make the time, which is less now that I have my lovely kids.
As far as the onesies, I have an embroidery machine, so I do up just your ordinary white onesie, embroidered with whatever personalization the buyer wants on the front (name, cutesy saying, etc) I just sell them on ebay and to aquaintances and by word of mouth. I started out making onesies embroidered with "Homegrown Breastfed" on the fronts and then people began asking for their own sayings on the front to which I happpily acquiesed. They're pretty inexpensive and I don't make too much on them, but really, every penny does count, especially when you're on a strict budget! And I actually do like making them too. Was that all ? I don't think I missed any questions, ask again if I did! Thanks again for all your kind words. Back to the beets!
