My name is Mary Jane and I live on 45 acres of land in a small town. We used to farm most of it, now it is just our little piece of heaven. I was born in Ontario Canada, but have lived in NY from the time I was 6. I am so glad to be an active part of MaryJane's farm girls. I have read all the posts for a long time. I feel like I know all of you already. You are so supportive and loving to each other. I have been married for 41 yrs. to my childhood sweetheart. I am a Mom and a Grandma. I love animals and kids and the country life. If I goof something up please be patient with me!! I have never done this before!
Farm girl hugs to all of you. Mary Jane

| Hi, Mary Jane! Are you anywhere near Sherman, and the Brushwood Folklore Center? I've gone to lots of festivals there over the years, and have always found the area to be just breathtaking. New York State in general is so much more amazing than most people realize. |

Thank all of you so much for your warm welcomes. We are about an hour from Buffalo, Rochester is closer to us, only a half hour at most. We are very close to Brockport NY. It is a college town and has just about everything that you could want. But, it still has that great small town feeling. I have been to East Aurora. The ride over there is so beautiful. When people think of NY they think of NYC and there is so much more country side than city.My most favorite part of NY is the Adirondacks. We love where we are, because it is so rural here and yet in a few minutes you are in town. We live 1800 feet off the road, so we are in a very private setting. In case you are wondering, we are back so far because we had greenhouses for a long time and this is very sheltered back here. We have a long winding gravel and dirt road. We have meadowlike fields now where we used to do most of the vegetable farming. There are also many acres of woods. We feel so blesssd to have this property. There are 2 houses back here. Ours and one that my Mom and Dad lived in. We rent that one out.It is far enough away that we each have our own privacy. Plus the rent pays the taxes!! Anything else you would like to know just ask. Oh, I almost forgot we also are proud parents of two dacshunds. Molly and Timmy.
Thanks again for the warm welcome, I know I will love it here. MJ

Welcome Mary Jane You are right about NY- I only envision the NYC images from tv. I'm in the deep south about 20 miles from the Gulf of Mexico- Thanks for describing the NY I can only imagine. Autumn

Beth, one of the roommates I was assigned in my first semester at college was from East Aurora. I always wondered what it was like there. Now I have a much better idea!

Welcome, Mary Jane! Your place sounds lovely. Oh... to have so much privacy and quiet! My sister-in-law grew up in Brockport! Her mom taught there. I'd forgotten the name until you mentioned it and always considered Jen was raised in Rochester. Like you, we have a house where my husband's parents lived next door, and from time to time let people we know and trust live there.

"spent most of my summer growing up outside of Jamestown NY.

Hey, Beth! My mom grew up in Jamestown and we went back there every other summer to visit my grandparents when I was growing up. My grandmother moved out with us in 1971, when my grandpa died, and the last time Mom was back there was 1985 (to bury Grandma's ashes there). I was there last October for just a little over a day. I had a wonderful time visiting places (my grandparents' old house, the Audubon center and grounds south of town, my great-grandparents' house in Youngsville, PA. The colors weren't yet totally at their peak but were beautiful... I could have spent more time there.
Also Mary Jane, WELCOME! Karin =) |

| Hi, Mary Jane. I am very close to you, right in Rochester. And my mother grew up in Salamanca, NY, so I have spent some time in the Southern Tier as well. In fact, I am going down to Allegany State Park this weekend. Are you familiar with Hurd Orchards in Holley? I like to go out there for upick fruit. |

Welcome, Mary Jane. Your place sounds so peaceful and serene. My husband's family had a dairy farm in upstate New York many years ago. It does seem that most folks think of NYC and don't realize there's a lot more to New York state. :)

Welcome Mary Jane! Your property sounds like heaven! I've often wanted to make a trip up that way to visit the Corning glass museum, which I believe is near Rochester?... Although hubby and I live in Lancaster county PA, we spend a lot of our time in northern PA, and every time I see signs on Rte. 15 for the museum I keep bugging my husband to take me there! Enjoy the group, there's always so many great posts that I could spend days just enjoying reading everyone's wisdoms and experiences! |

Hi AmieC, Hurd Orchards is very close to where I live. It's up on Ridge Rd. Are you familiar with Ridge Rd. West? I have been to Hurd's a few times. There was a write up on Hurd's in Country Living magazine a few years ago. They are famous for their Jams and fruits. You would probably enjoy it. We have a dear friend that lives in Stueben County in the Southern Tier. Isn't the country lovely down there? Thanks for the welcome! Mary Jane
