Hubby & I had some errands to run in town today & I managed to talk him into letting me take a field trip in the Goodwill store...& guess what I found??? drum roll please! It's an early 1930 "White" sewing machine with a satin crinkle finish which the manufacture stopped producing when WWII broke out. Tomorrow DH & I will roll up our sleves dust and oil the cabinet as well as blow out the cobwebs & oil up the machine & change out the plug. The machine works, just needs a good cleaning and someone (that would be me ) that well love & use it! Once I get it gussied up I will post pic's of it on my blog. Ok I am off to go sit & fiddle with it. HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!

My mom has and still uses a White sewing machine made in the early 1940s.... it does the best buttonholes you have ever seen. I have a computerized top of the line machine but will use hers for buttonholes everytime. Congrats and enjoy you have a treasure for sure!! Hugs, Kathy |

Ok, I took a picture of the "old girl" & posted it on my blog. this is the B-4 pic. I plan to sew some or maybe even all of my Valintine minis on it. I now have 6 sewing machines and 1 itty bitty serger....and I want more!!!!! lol! 1 is my grammy's treadle in the origional cabinet, it is a WHITE. Then I have my mom's 1950's Elna. I have 2 new(er) Brother sewing machines. I found another sewing machine,1960's, but it doesn't have a name on it so I am not sure who makes it. All my machines work. Unfortunatly there are not enough hours in the day for me to play with them all. Boonie thanx for the site, I am heading over there now. Hey Kathy, were is Moses Lake in proximity to Spokane? Hey Jess, as much as I love my grammy's treadle machine, I am SOOOO thankful that electricity was invented other wise my right ankle would be bigger that my left..lol! >^..^< Happiness is being a katmom. mjf#72 Sisters on the Fly#472 www.katmom4.blogspot.com |

Hey Bonnie, I am back, thanx for that wonderful site, sewusa.com. I was able to print up the threading guide for my mom's Elna and I think I figured out what my mystery machine is, a mid-century Montgomery Wards. So I printed up the threading guide for it as well. Thanx again. hugz.

Grace, your machine is neat identical to my moms' White, only difference I can see is the area around the light. I could thread your machine with my eyes closed. Even the cabinet is nearly identical. Does it use a knee pedal rather than a foot pedal? Does it still have all the feet and buttonholer? Mom used hers yesterday to mend a sheet. Hugs, Kathy |

Liz, thanks for noticeing, yep, that was yet another great find, the skirt hem stick set me back a whole whooppping $1.49 and I am thrilled. I have one attached to my dress form, but it's nice to have a free standing one too!
Hey, Kathy, Mine has a knee pedal. I have the owners manual & a binded sewing book that was tucked away under neath, but no button hole or other foot attachments. Just the basic foot for sewing. That being said, I have all the attachments from grandma's treadle (also a WHITE) and I will see if they can be used on this one. The button holer is a rather large unit and I think it was bought well after grandma got her machine. She was widowed in her 20's with 6 kids, (5 boys & 1 girl) so she had to sew to make/repair & hand down what little clothes that they had during the Great Depression. Wow, talk about a hard life. But she was frugal and shared her "frugal tips" with her kids & her grandkids. I only wish I had payed closer attention. I have a few sewing projects that have to be completed, but as soon as I get caught up I will sew an apron on it and hopefully I'll get to sew some or all of my mini's on there too! Wish me luck. hugz, >^..^< Happiness is being a katmom. mjf#72 Sisters on the Fly#472 www.katmom4.blogspot.com |
