IS there any interest out there for a Spring and Flowers Quilt Block Swap? I was thinking of spring colors and/or flowers on your blocks? You know, those clear spring colors of daffofil yellow, tulip red, sky blue, hyacinth purple, grassy green with true white.
How about smaller blocks again, maybe 8 1/2" finished size or 10 1/2" finished size?
We could have a deadline of March 3oth.
Post if you are interested. Maybe we can get 12-15 gals out there. Let me know which size you prefer.
WE GOT 16 LADIES NOW!! THE SWAP IS FILLED AND CLOSED.

Question whats the background? white or natural muslin, white on white, tone or tone? applique? embroidery? crayons with embroidery outlines? Thoughts I ask. Not tiring to be difficult just wondering what I am getting into?#!

Clare!!! I would like to join. Nice spring colores of pink, yellow and green. We could use a little thought of spring right now. I like the idea of an 8 1/2 inch block. Let me know exactaly what pattern you want or is it a "quilters choice".

I think PURE WHITE should be the accent color. Use it with any spring colors of your choice-red, yelow, purple, blue, pink and green.
Yes, you can do anything with this block-applique, embroidery, combo with crayons or just plain old piecing.

I have a question please..having never done these..are the blocks simply plain fabric squares that are embroidered or appliqued with a flower design, and then the recipient sews them into a quilt? or are they squares that have a quilted block edging to them? Trying to understand what they are supposed to look like. thanks.

Tina they would be an 8 1/2 ' white square embroidered or appliqued etc. which when sewen by recipient with 1/4" will make them a 8" quilt block. By quilted block edging do you mean another color around the white?(border) If you are a beginner I do not think you will be piecing or appliquing though. You may want to embroider or transfer and use fabric markers, fabric crayons, or floss. Yo yo flowers etc. There is all kinds of cool buttons ie: birds, butterflies etc. Let your imagination flow. Hope that helps. Any more questions ask away they will be answered. |

o.k. I understand it now..when the topic was "quilt block" I thought that yes, it meant adding a border of some sort to the edging. I understand now..thanks. just a plain square embroidered/decorated. thanks.

technically Tina you could add a color border as long as it measures to 8 1/2" and you use 1/4" seams. I guess the whole idea is making it the size so it can be quilted. Quilted is when we sandwich with batting and backing after. But the quilt square is used in our quilts or wall hanging etc. Hence the name quilt square. Like the signiture blocks unless you make like a crazy patch square or pieced block. |

Thanks, Carrie, for making it more clear for Tina. Tina, probably the easiest way to go is to cut white squares 8 1/2", trace a flower design on and embrodier it. This is just one way.
This is open to regular piecing so if you wanted to try a nine patch or even a four patch with some yo-yos or embroidery on one of thos esquares, you could.
If you felt a bit nervous, you could just pick a pieced design and submit that for your block. It's nice, though, to have something a bit more like a basket block, kind of makes it more springy.
I have pplans for an applique design and maybe an embrodiery one if time permits.

OK, It seems like there will be enough interest for this. So, here goes.
1. Make 8 1/2" finished squares, one for each member of the swap. We will stop at 15 members.
2. Use Spring colors in the blocks including any/or WHITE, yellow, red, pink, green, blue and purple.
3. If you would like, please add some type of FLOWERS to your block. This could be embroidery, applique, pieced or embellished such as yo-yo flowers.
4. Sign-ups close FEBRUARY 15 or if we have 15 members by then
5. Finished blocks must be mailed in SASE (large return enevelope, please) to Clare Adams/suzyhomemaker. Email me, and I will email back with my address. Please mail/post by MARCH 30th. I will swap them out and mail back to you as soon as I receive all the blocks from the members.

I was so excited, rummaging through my F.Q.'s and scrap fabrics, & found some wonderful Spring prints....then the phone rang....and if you want to see/read what happened after that you will have to go over to Farmgirl Chapter Chatter~Kookie kluckers to find out what my day was like.....but tomorrow I will not answer the phone! Glad to be joining in this swap. Clare, Thanx for being the 'swapmama" & hosting it. hugz.
