Alee I tried the potato thing and you can get them to wet and they won't grow spuds.Just great foliage. So make sure that you are able to drain the water through them and not ruin the floor.
It was 5:00 tonight and I noticed We still had light and when I got up at 7:00 this morning it was light too.
The days are getting longer and the gardens are getting closer.

Sorry I missed the chat last night, but Lliam had a major meltdown and I ended up with a dislocated jaw due to a kick in the face. That was after he tried to remove my nose with his killer grip! I'll be eating soft foods for a few days now. It even hurts to lay down. Oh well such is life with "special" children.
Lance and I were discussing our business ideas today. I think I am going to take the plunge and get a new laptop. It's a good thing too since our old computer crapped out on us yesterday. All we did was move it to another room. I can still "work" on it but it won't recognize the USB modem so it won't connect to the web. We have had the darn thing worked on 3 times in 4 years. The last time the computer geek said it won't "fix" again w/o spending a bundle of $$$. So we weighed the pros and cons of rebuilding vs buying this time the buying won out. I am going to do something I don't usually do - buy on time since I can get 18 mos interest free. No worries - it will be paid off by summer. We decided this would be our anniversary and birthday presents for this year. Not a bad deal - eh? Also it will be nice to have a computer that is superfast and has a lot of memory for garden planning and journaling.
Alee - love the idea about the trash can taters.
We missed the big storm. We got a bit of ice and some flurries but that was it. It snowed more today than yesterday and we still don't have much to speak of. It is bitter cold though. I am not looking forward to checking trucks in this. Brrrr. I am going to have to break out the coveralls. Such an attractive look! They are too big for me and on top of that - we have to wear the huge yellow-reflective vests due to new state and federal regulations. I wore it today and felt like a giant neon yellow marshmallow! All in the name of safey I guess.
I am getting closer to deciding what seeds to order.
Gotta run - have to do some sewing
hugs!!

Oh No Lora!!! Ouch!
Nora has food allergies that make her have rage. I had the same thing when I was little so at least I know what is going on, but it sure gives a good explanation of demonic possession eye witnesses! There have been times where I have hardly recognized my sweet girl, and the worst thing is I remember how those attacks felt! :( She has about broken my nose before with head butting. I hope she doesn't ever dislocate my jaw! That sound excruciating! Heal fast!

Thank you Dawn for visiting my site. I am trying to blog whats going on daily or what's on my mind. Plus I added the herbal Wisdom Tuesday's. I am enjoying the blogging. I have never done this before. It is very therapy for me .like journaling....I need the down time & want to still be productive..Keeps me focused on what I want to be doing in my life now that I have retired.

HI Karen! Didn't mean to ignore your post! Sorry! You will need a trash can that is at least 20-30 inches tall. 2-3 feet tall. Here is a link with more detailed info

Thanks, Alee! We should be good to go now. DH was excited about the idea so keep your fingers crossed. You and I may be growing potted potatoes together. How cool is that? Just realized I'll be growing potatoes in one garbage can and composting Gus' poo in another (flowers only). Garbage cans - they're not just for garbage anymore!
Good morning, maven lovelies! I've been on the 'puter for a bit so this will be short. Need to get started on the never-ending house-decluttering task, then it's off to the post office (Ruth ) and then to Lowes for dowels so we can get Gus' crate set up to start seeds. Oh yea, an a garbage can or two!
Dawn, we miss you! And icicles - haven't had those hanging from the roof yet this year. I love seeing them when I look out the front window.
Diana, we've noticed the lengthening days here too. Ahhhhhh, good for the gardening soul.
Lora, hope you're feeling better today and don't end up with a huge bruise on the side of your face. That would give anyone you stop pause, though - they won't want to mess with you, even if you look like a neon marshmallow! Stopped by your blog - very nice!
Hope those of you in the NW are thawing out. I haven't seen/heard the news in a few days. Of course, I'm also hoping the thaw isn't causing anymore flooding either. Someone fill me in when you have a minute.
Okay, I'm off!

Lora~So sorry to hear about your rough night. I hope you feel better soon.
Dawn~You are a very busy girl these days. I hope you can get some rest soon.
Alee~Thank you for the great idea about the potatoes and the link. I really want to try this.
I have been busy here with housework, schoolwork for the kids and doing some crochet. I have been making some cute owl hats to sell. I have had some good orders, too. I have pictures on my blog-3rd post down if you want to see them.
I finally received my first issue of MJF. I am so happy. Of course, I didn't even have a minute to look at it yet. My daughter's history is a pain and it gives me alot of correction work. What was I thinking? It's a good program but oh man the work.
Rene~I so wish I was going to BBB. Maybe some year soon.

Morning Mavens! My schedule is weird this week so I have Sunday/Wednesday off..so here I am on a Wednesday morning. Lora - I hope your jaw/face feels better, I had a hard-headed son with a big noggin and got hit a couple times too, nothing that serious though. Oh and everyone needs a big neon yellow marshmallow suit in their life:) I have a new seed catalog that I have been perusing, my SSE hasn't come yet, hopefully any day. This one is John Scheepers Kitchen Garden Seeds - I don't remember if anyone else mentioned it, it has some neat stuff including, of course, the safe seed pledge. I don't know how I ended up on their mailing list but I'm not complaining. Ruth - what part of history are you working on with your daughter? I love history - have a degree and an endorsement to teach it which really helps out in the grocery store let me tell you :D I'm going to try to have a productive day, plan some garden beds, do some cleaning, some reading (of course) Oh - the Northwest weather - definitely calmer. We are in a system of mostly dry/above freezing during the day so things are slowly getting back to normal. Hope the rest of you are staying warm Amy Grace

Ruth: I HAVE TO HAVE AN OWL HAT! How much? I love the cream one with the really big eyes close together. How flippin cute!
I've been trying to get online all day and my computer was not letting it happen. I spent most of my day off waiting.... I tried going upstairs to sew, but its sooooo cold up there. We had a whopping high of 7 degrees today with 20 below expected tonight. My chicken eggs froze.... My dog ate a large block of suet for the birds. Am awaiting the onslaught of poo..... She keeps crying. Thats what she gets for eating suet....dumb dog.
I sure do miss everyone. I've been thinking of you and getting things ready to mail to some of you. I haven't forgotten about the bittersweet.
I keep waiting for my badges to post. Maybe sometime next week. I feel like I havent done a badge in years.
Not much else going on in my world. Just trying to keep warm. Have a great day tomorrow, I love you all.

Ok - we got hit hard with the second storm that came thru today. They took me off the road and put me in radio to help because one of the dispatchers called off sick. We were slammed. Slide off after slide off, crash after crash - even had lifeline heli land right in the middle of Interstate 70 due to a really bad crash. Why can't people just slow down? I mean, if you can't see the lines because of the snow, the obviously there is a problem and maybe just maybe it would be wise to take the foot off the gas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry that was my rant. It took me over an hour to get home today. (ususally 20-30 min)
THEN - when I got home and got out of the car - wait for it-----> I wiped out on the driveway. Landed on my elbow hip and somehow my shin. Haven't figured that out yet. All I know is it hurts... wah wah wah. When I got in the house, my darling son - Oh my gosh mommy, is the snow really that deep!? I couldn't help but laugh. AND it made me forget about my jaw for a minute. lol
Oh well.
Now I am really ready for spring. I just hope all this snow stays in the ground as water and we don't have the drought conditions we have had for the last 2 years. I know - wishful thinking.
Going to bed - I am zonked. Annika - I feel your tiredness!!!!!!!

Oh Lora - what a day!! I totally agree about snow-drivers. My DH and I decided that driving in bad weather is a great personality indicator, so if a person is inclined to not be a very nice person the snow will exaggerate that. Take Tina's advice and take a nice bath!! Hope everyone else is doing well - I didn't have nearly as productive a day as I would have liked, got sucked into reading and there went the day:) Amy Grace

Definately a tub soak in epsom salts is in order. You are gonna be sore tomorrow.. Keep warm & drink plenty fluids.. I Agree too some drivers should NOT drive inthe snow...

Lora I just lucked onto a product for bruises and sprains called arnica gel I had a small run in with the top of my jacuzzi and the control panel with my face and I broke my nose I put that gel on about 4 times that day and no black eyes or bruises that showed and it relieved some of the soreness. I bought to use after I had a bad leg cramps and it worked then too.
I also would take the epsom salt bath too just because you can.

OMG! Mavens~You are the best!!! I just received an email from Brian at MJF. I am just tearing up here at your sweetness!! Thank you so much for the sisterhood membership. You are the best!!! I don't even have words to express how thankful I am. You have all blessed me so much since I have joined this group. I am always learning from you. It has been such a blessing getting to know each and everyone of you!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Dawn~I emailed you. Aren't those owl hats too cute?
Lora~My goodness girl. You are sure having a tough time of it. You need a nice hot bath, some nice warm comfort food, a warm blanket and off to bed.
Amy Grace~my daughter is doing world history from the 16th century on. It's a continuation from last year. It's called Streams of Civilization~very involved.
It is freezing cold here today. They have canceled schools. Our coop homeschool classes were canceled. The kids were sad because they love them. I'm just happy to be staying home on this frigid day. We only did a couple of subjects for school and now the kids are done. Hugs, Ruth
