Good morning/evening Mavens,
Yes it is good about little kitty. I love cats, but I especially love the ones with the fat persian faces, you did a good thing Corinne. I'm working on another quiilt(you know don't you that you have to have at least three going at once so you can really be crazy, lol). It's a pieced basket. I'll try and put a pic of it on here when I can.
MMMMMMM gator tail, it's not just for breakfast anymore. LOL.
Thanks to Rene' I'm planning a chat between us and Lynn Coulter about her book, GARDENING WITH HEIRLOOM SEEDS. How cool is that?
Yes, we missed you Cheryl!!!!!
Sooooo, what is everyone doing today? I'm going to go fry chicken at the cafe until 11am, then home, do some housework and then applique my basket handle onto my quilt block. Then I hope I have time to start cutting out the Maven badges. Which leads me back to the question, how many Mavens do we have, is the last list with addys that Corinne sent current with our number. I will send out badges to the addys I have, sooooo if you are a new Maven and we don't have your info you need to send it in! That is, if you want a badge.

Good morning, mavens! We have flurries this morning - just enough to cover the ground. Hopefully it will end there and not surprise us with inches.
Corinne, that was so sweet of you to check on the kitty. That’s something I would do too – just for the warm fuzzy.
TS, congrats on the chat planning! Rene’, way to delegate, girlfriend!
Cheryl, right now set the alarm on your cell phone for next Monday’s chat night. Or use whatever system you need. You can even use me to remind you! My “chat alarm” services are free.
Dawn, what a great egg! Loved the tips at the bottom especially. And thanks for including that row of okra for me. I’m also fond of the lettuce and spinach row as that’s how I eat my salads – half and half. No radishes for me – yet.
TS (again), I’m going to check the address list against the new mavens welcomed in the newsletter. I think there are one or two that aren’t on the list yet. I’ll get back to you on that later today.
My plans are simple: going to the post office (to finally get everything in the mail that was supposed to go out last week. (Long story) Then it’s laundry and bread-baking here today with some swap activity thrown in for good measure.
Have a great day, mavens!
God bless - Karen ~ Chickherder & Maven's Haven Editor Farmgirl Sister #311
P.S. TS, Lora, Tina, Rene', anyone else who chatted last night - sorry I had to leave early. I really need to plan my Mondays better now that our schedule has changed so that I can be there longer. Would one/some/all of you please fill me in on what I missed? Thanks, sistas |

Morning Mavens- I missed chat last night, DH and I were talking just enjoying each others company. Not much going on here, I am hoping to get out to the greenhouse today and get some organizing done. Hopefully the rest of my seeds will be here this week and then I will be starting my onions. In the back pages of the Baker Creek catalog there is a thingy called the "Clyde's Garden Planner". I bought one of those last year and used the heck out of it. Takes the guess work out of when should you plant something.
Karen- I feel your "seed order pain". I actually had to call SSE when I did my potato order because my dial-up couldn't handle it. The seed orders were done 3 different days because I could only "handle" so much of the "slowness"
Corinne-Thank You for saving the kitty. She will be someones special friend for sure.
Amy Grace- I am as computer ignorant as you. You're not alone. I don't know what I am going to do when my boys leave home.
Cheryl- My DH found a wonderful light timer for the chicken house. It actually replaced the light switch. You can put 4 different times in it and it gives a tempature reading too. If I need to turn the light on then I just tap the button and it turns on. The younger chickens have just a timer with the pegs to set the time and I can never seem to get the time I want with those.
Marcy- How did that jam turn out? I had my canning book out the other day dreaming of all the things I am going to make this summer. We are going to invest in a pressure canner this year!! I am excited about that!
Dh just called me to let me know he found a link for my cast iron bread pans.... I have 2 lodge bread pans and I absolutly love them so I went to order more from them and found out they were discontinued and did not offer them. I have been on a mission to find a place that still carries them at a decent price. Better go check it out-I'll let you know if I got them.

I'm totally having a pity party for myself today. I feel like a zombie by the time I get home. This morning I got up and wasted about 20 minutes just staring at nothing. jerry was like "are you okay?".... "yea, I just dont wanna go to work and listen to those phones". I find it very hard to carry on a convo, much less post. BUt I need to cuz I miss you all somethin fierce.
So, what went on in the chat last night? to be honest, I can't tell you what I did. I think I just sat comotose in a chair. I know I was hurtin a bit last night... stupid fibro.... this weather stinks. I want it to warm up so I feel better.
Corrine beat me to it, but I have 20 Mavens to count. I also have 3 journals ready to go for anyone who wants them. They are $5 each and the $ goes in THE FUND. Just email me when you've paid and I will send it out asap.
I too have a ton of stuff to put in the mail and havent gotten to it. My mind is elsewhere of late.
Wknd with Audrey was good. She had a lot of fun at the concert... not my thing but she is young and that's what they like. She's never been downtown Cleveland before and I think she got her eyes opened. When I was young I used to go to Cleveland every wknd. haha... those were the good days..... She said it looked like a scene from 8 Mile (a movie). haha....
gotta run. thats all I got for now.

Lillian – I kept thinking of you while I did my seed orders. And I kept praying that the connection wouldn’t drop and I’d have to start over. I was thinking about calling the company about half-way through but then I was half-way through so why not finish. Thankfully the big orders are done, although I have a few herbs and flowers to order from Bakers Creek. Also, please send me the phone # for the cast iron pans. I was just thinking this morning about getting another couple of glass ones but what I really want is cast iron. How’s that for coincidence?
Corinne, my latest list only has 19 mavens. It doesn’t have Julie (ClaireSky) or Cristine (MsCwick).
Dawn, so sorry your in the pits today. ‘Tis the dark and cloudy season. I did manage to get everything mailed today – finally. Oh, the stories I could tell of the last week but I’ll spare you all and just say that I managed to get everything done on my outing list and that was huge!
Okee, doke, now to get some break makin’ and bakin’ done……

Oh I'm just kidding, everyone is missed when they aren't around. Its just so weird for me. I'm accustomed to talking with ya's whenever I darn well feel like it and now I cant. It doesnt help that work installed these 'lovely' gray cubicles, I have no pics in here. I cant see over or around. I'm trapped. working like this is awful. We are frowned on for talking amongst ourselves. UGH. I'm going to talk to hubby about going back to school. I dont know what for, but I gotta get out of here.... I feel suffocated. Im NO MUSHROOM!!!
So what happening today? Tell me about your fantastic lives. Boss left early and I have a half hour left.

So are we placing individual seed orders or are we ordering together? I'm confused. I thought we were going to combine efforts. If not, then I need to order my seed.

packed up a couple more boxes..ooh what fun..ha.need to get a few more boxes this week sometime to get everything else that is left sorted out and packed up.Then..we'll have that big garage sale here. --------- oh gosh darn..cubicle land...so not fun Dawn..I feel for you. hope you find the thing that you really want to do. ---------- sorry that I have a few of you dreaming of gator tails..ha.and yes it is a white meat..best way to describe it is it tastes a lot like cod/a light fish taste.ha. But no I don't think I had ever had it for breakfast. And it has been a long time since I have eaten any of it. -------- On a different note: I'll have some more canvas bags in my etsy shop by this evening..some real cool designs. Also I have a nice give away going on at my gardengoose blog/check it out when you get a chance. ---------- And..I continue to dream about gardens..I have some magazine clippings that I have saved in a folder and a blank sketch book..so I'm going to start creating a "garden idea" note book for myself. Even though my life is starting to be in transit..I can still have a little fun by creating the garden journal and making garden plans. I still have the melon plants on the kitchen counter and will get them planted as soon as our weather warms up and we are over the freezes this weekend. I've kept 9 of the plants alive..and they are all doing pretty good. If they wind up not doing well..I can always get some more seeds from the J.H. Hudson,seedsman..that's where I got the pride of barbados seeds and these collective farm woman melon seeds..the catalog isn't very pretty..but he does offer a variety of heirloom and unique seeds. ------------- love you gals. have a good day.

I don't know how the seed thing is working either Dawn..I'm confused about it as well. In fact I am not ordering any seed at all for growing this year(oh that hurts so bad to say that I probably won't have a garden this year unless it is in a few pots..groan, big groan)but I'll probably purchase some for the shop I have online. I will probably do a few seed swaps also with folks to build up my seed bank for when I do get moved though. I'm wanting to add heirloom bean varieties to my stash...but may do seed swaps to acquire a few of those though.

Just thought I'd pop in one more time tonight and see what cha'll are in to. I'm not cutting that apron up yet TS....not until I understand that pattern a little better. I'll be working on a christmas apron in summer!
I'm putting together a fun box for Brenda. I know she misses us. I cant wait to send it to her next month.
Not much else happening tonight. I got wrote up today at work so I'm inwardly griping already about going back. We have a stuped rule that we cant clock in more than 10 before a shift or 10 after, and I clocked in one day this week at...... 11 minutes til 9am! GASP! HOW COULD I???? Bad maven...bad! That kind of stuff irritates the bejezzzies outta me. One flippin minute. Seriously? I had to sign off on the warning and everything. Seriously?? I need to get out of cubicle land. It wasnt this way last year. We had open spaces and could look at someone and make a funny face. Not now. Okay, I'm done. I hate whining and I'm doing a good job of it!
Hope fully I'll get that binding tomorrow so I can finish those two quilts. I need to get yarn to tie them off as well. They are cute. I'll take pics and post. Making baby blankets is my one good sewie thing!

To everyone ~ hihi! Glad to be able to take a few and post!
Corinne ~ I'm just so so glad that you were there for the kitten. I would take it home if I could. I hope that your last days in Kuwait are at least ordered and not Chaos as mine usually are in the last day of where ever I am moving from. Love to you Sister.
Tina, I never grew out of loving to play in the dirt and I love obscure and fun bean varieties, so maybe we can share some packages.
I am unsure how the seed thing was going to work???...I "Think" that we were thinking of sharing cost on packages of seeds...somebody shoot me down if I am wrong...if we were ordering the same thing and were not needing a whole packet. We would share packets of seeds then? Right?
To those of you who were thinking of meeting at the coop in Moscow...did that happen? is it still in the works? If I have the time, I would love to come. Please let me know when if it is still a go.
Karen ~ I'm pretty much with you on the garden thing...I haven't planned a gosh darned thing, just that I have put the garden space closest to the water... I am smart! But I need to decide what I'm going to order this year and get that order off this week... Time on the farm leaves so little time left to do anything else
Love you all girls.

Hi Annika, missing you girl! No the GREAT MOSCOW MEETUP has not happened, lol. I have a feeling until the gripes of Old Man Winter subside it will be only a dream. But, hey watch out, come Spring, I bet we all make a run for it. LOL.
I agree with Annika, I thought we all would get different seed and then share. But maybe I'm wrong.*shrug*
