This is my first message on the forum but I love to read everyone's posts. I feel like I know most of you already. I love this website!! I live in Santa Cruz County (Surf City) in California and breed and raise alpacas and Babydoll Sheep. We also have a few pet pet Nubain goats, house mini lop bunny, and LOTS of dogs (Great Pyrs for guarding the critters, a house Newfie and Golden Retriever). I am a part time Registered nurse and my husband does the commute to Silicon Valley but as soon we get home we change out of our work clothes put on our muck boots and jeans and race out side to be with our farm family Manda |

Manda, Sounds like a wonderful group to come home to! I've read a little about the Baby Doll Sheep - if I was going to get sheep, that would be the one....probably because its smaller. Welcome!

Hi Frannie, 5 of my Babydoll sheep have dark brown wool. They start out as black lambs and gradually turn into a dark brown. This year I sent all my fleece to a mini mill to have it washed, spun and made into throw blankets. We lost 2 alpacas to a mountain lion last year (still not over that) and I wanted something special made with their fleece from the previous year. We have them shorn once a year in May before it gets too hot. I can give you a heads up when we shear and send samples of the paca's and sheep's fiber. The alpacas are very gentle -my 5 year old daughter helps feed in the evening and they love her. Most are not pettable -they are herd animals and very skittish but once you work with them and teach them to lead on a halter they trust you and tend to be more relaxed. The same with the Babydolls. They really are the cutest sheep. I will have my husband post some pics soon -computers really aren't my thing. |

Welcome Manda! I love sheep. We raised them on the farm I grew up on, but I must admit I have never heard of Babydoll sheep. I assume from the name they are small. Do you have a pix to share? Would love to see one. Julia V.
