Just thought I'd stop by and introduce myself. I'm Brenda from East Central Minnesota where it is currently snowing madly AGAIN! My husband and I have 7 acres that we bought 4 years ago, 7 children (4 still at home)that we homeschool, 2 cows (soon to be 3), 20 some chickens, 1 dog, 1 cat, 2 rabbits, 1 big garden. We live off-grid with solar power and we're adding wind this spring, cook from scratch, sew most of our clothes, and I love my clothesline.
I look forward to sharing, learning, gleaning, and having you all as friends! ~Brenda

Sorry it is snowing there, I hope spring shows up for you soon.

Hi Brenda, welcome. You sound like your going to have tons to offer. I look forward to your posts. It isn't freezing here anymore but we did have a long hard winter. I thought maybe I would share a great "kid project" that my husband and I loved to do this winter. maybe you have already done it. . . We made Ice Lanterns. they turned out so cool. We took plastic containers and filled them up with water (hot water iced clearer, we even tried food coloring) you can fill them up an inch at a time, layering the ice. I froze floating cranberries and they turned out so pretty layered in the ice. We took cans, filled them up with marbles and sunk them in the middle of the layers of ice. That is where we placed candles. Then at the end of the season they just melted away and the birds ate my cranberries. . .
I wish I could post a picture, but I am still forum challenged and I am working on it. . .
Great to "meet you". Heide

Tasha-Rose, We used to drive through Backus when we went to visit my inlaws up by Walker. Haven't been up that way in a few years as both of my in-laws are now deceased. Glad to know there are other Minnesotans that are like minded There sure doesn't seem to be any close around me LOL!

Welcome Brenda!
I drive through Ogilvie every weekend on my way home to Popple Creek! Sounds like you are as tired of the snow as I am.....Spring can't come to soon, my gardens are calling me. This is the best forum - everyone is so helpful and friendly. You can't help but love it!

I wish I lived closer!I homeschool my three youngest and my dream is to homestead, being off grid....maybe a few chickens,a pig....a definately a bigger garden. This from a born and raised city girl(but, surely a farm girl at heart even when I was little!)I have much to learn but, have been doing LOTS of reading the past 2-3 years. We lived in Cosmos,Mn for a year and a half really liked it there too! But,the job situation changed(company was moving all the equipment to Sioux Falls)So now we've been back in our home state for nearly 9 years. Where are you at in relation to Cosmos? We use to go to Hutch(Hutchison),Litchfield and sometimes Wilmar to shop.I love being back in mich, but still miss minnesota. cj
