You know sometimes when you feel that your the only one that is a country girl who likes to raise animals, crotchet, canning, and who is so not living in the right era. Well i would like to meet country girls like myself in my are which I live. I live in Medford, Oregon. I know there here but how do you meet them. So I thought I would try this.

I feel you pain Jacqueline. I always get the strange looks when I talk about cannning, my chickens, wanting a dairy goat, learning to spin fiber, and all of those good things. Dh and I know that we were born 100 years late! I am a little far away but am always open to saying "Hello". Glad you are here on the forum and who knows maybe someday we will be neighbors. I am getting ready to post a call to the Oregon girls for newspapers from their local town so DH and I can start our search for more land. Nice to meet you.

I am so there. I can't even count how many raised eyebrows I've encountered when I've told people I'm learning to weave, want to learn to spin, and am saving my money to buy a Jersey cow so I can milk her and make my own butter. But the way I see it, if ever anything drastic happens in this country, my dh and I will be able to feed ourselves from our own 'backyard' (60 acres). I'd like to see those eyebrows then!! Jacqueline, I live in Louisiana, not Oregon, but until you find some farm girls in your area, we're all here for you!

I am just outside of Silverton-30 miles NE of Salem. It is beautiful up here. Congratulations on your 27 years, DH and I just celebrated our 22nd anniv and were also married at 19. Our garden is rather large and all summer long we get people that slow down and look at it, you would think they had never seen how food was grown, people just amaze me.

It is amazing. My husband works up in Hillsboro and my brother lives in Sweethome. You know we were talking about moving closer to his work and I was thinking of areas around where you are. I told my husband that I was not about to live in the city again. I am a real outgoing person and when we lived up there, no one is very friendly. If you start talking with them, i swear they think you are going to come to their house and kill them or something. I am just not use to that mentality, of not being friendly. It is to bad we don't live closer we could help eachother bring in the harvest. I do it by myself because I don't know anyone who does it. Are you looking for more land up by where you live? It seems we have alot in common, if you want we could be pen pals. I have never been one before but it would be fun, swapping recipes and ideas. I love to learn and make new things, one thing i wish i knew how to do is knit. I bet your garden is beautiful. I hope you have a great day:)

Jacqueline

Hi Jacqueline! I totally agree with you! Funny thing is I've been considering moving to oregon for a few months now. I've only had one short trip up there so far though. I just know Los Angeles is not where I will stay! Born and raised right here but the things I want (like a farm and all those terrific things) you don't find here! If it weren't for my best friend Laura I really would got crazy! She and I both crave the simple country life thing. You are soooo not alone! We just are all a bit spread out I guess!

Hi Jacqueline!! Welcome!! I know exactly how you feel
My friends all laugh at me because I can my own food, bake from scratch, darn my socks, would rather sew up my own curtains than buy them on sale, hunt & fish, etc, etc.

I love it here since I am among so many that love what I do. . . and you too!!! So sorry I am not a near by farmgirl, however, we can still stay in touch and offer encouragement, lend an ear or even a helping hand despite the long distance!

Would love to see some pictures of your farm and any projects you might be working on too!

Jacquline-Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you, it has been a busy week. Then again every week is busy! I am up for a "penpal", drop me an email any time just keep in mind it sometimes takes me a day or two to get back to you. My email is in my profile. We are looking for land in Eastern or Southern Oregon, it is too expensive up here!

I bet you do miss it, that is neat that you use to live here. Since you are familiar with this area, i live there on South Stage Road, the road that takes you to Jacksonville, than out to the applegate. How long has it been since you have been here? Does your family still live here? Well we should continue to write to each other via email or something. How long has it been since you have lived in this area? I actually grew up in Ashland and than in my 9th grade moved to Phoenix and graduated from that High School.

Jacqueline, There is the Rogue River Chicks chapter in Medford. The Kfalls Charming Chicks will be meeting them and going to the Rooster Parade over in Medford on June 27th. You should look them up as I think they are looking for more members.

Welcome Jacqueline!!!

I'm sure that you will be able to meet up with some of the gals here. I understand about different ways of life. I finally found a friend that is like-minded in living a farm way of life. I look forward to your posts :)

Jacqueline, in case you have'nt found the Rogue River Chicks as I still have'nt seen a hen house for them, here is Joann's email and she said to give her a text and she would get back with you. Kfalls chicks met them all last week and they are really nice women and we will be meeting up with them again soon. They are staying in the same area we will be for the BBB in July. jnntimmel@yahoo.com
